I would just grease the pan with your butter. That's what I do anyway. Make sure you get it in all the corners of the pan.

I usually take a baggie (sandwich bag) and scoop out the butter and smear it all inside the pan and then just pull the baggie off inside out, and there's no mess. Sometimes a napkin or paper towel will come apart and will stick to the pan while you're rubbing it.

You don't need spray. I wouldn't suggest the foil though, unless you're going to butter it. Just butter the pan.

Contrary to what all these other people are saying, you can use foil WITHOUT putting butter and oil on it. There is enough fat in the brownies that they will come off the foil without a problem. Whenever I make brownies I always line the pan with foil, it makes clean up a breeze and they are so easy to get out of the pan! And yes, oil or butter would work too, but you don't need both.

Butter or oil should work. That's what they used before cooking spray. Rub it with a paper towel over the entire inner surface of the pan. We also used to coat the pan with a little flour (shaking off the excess into the sink.) In this case, I'd probablu use a little powdered chocolate.

You can use butter or oil to grease your pan. Or if you're going to want to lift them out of the pan, line the pan with foil and then grease the foil with the butter or oil. I find I can easily get each brownie out of the pan after they're cooled and cut, so I don't use the foil - I butter my pan.

Yes, you can line the pan with foil to prevent sticking. It will help if you the butter the foil, once it's in the pan, just so you can peel it off when they're done.

Make sure you peel all of it of, so no one bites into a tiny bit of tin foil.

I don't know what kind of brownies Erin B. makes, but I wouldn't chance that! You'll risk ruining the whole batch.

A light coating of oil or butter would do the trick perfectly w/ or w/out the foil. Your choice there.

Butter should work, but some pans are just more prone to sticking that others. Just keep a close eye on them for readiness. You can also line the baking pan with wax paper or parchment paper, these are safe to bake with and will prevent sticking.
