My fiance and I are planning a wedding for family and close friends only. My mother and sister are planning a bridal shower and suggested that I invite the people who are not invited to the wedding to the shower. I feel funny inviting them to the shower.

I want to plan a Luau colored wedding but not luau themed. All my bridesmaids are wearing black with each carrying a bright bouquet. ex. orange, pink, purple etc.
I need help with decorating ideas for the reception. I've thought of each table being decorated in the various colors but the ideas stop there

I can't find a pic of it anywhere but it is almost a teal colour. Its shape is similar to a Bird of Paradise, I think but it is much smaller. I thought it might be a type of tropical flower that is dyed blue but I am not sure... all I know that it is a much different blue than most 'blue' flowers like hydrangeas, etc. Names and/or links to pictures would be greatly appreciated as I am using a dark teal as one of my wedding flowers and I thought it might look good for the boutonnieres.

First of all, we're having a BBQ (for 250+ ppl) after a smaller wedding since I'm getting married outdoors. My fiance's parents are paying for the reception food/drink but we're both paying for everything else. My fiance said he likes the clear plastic plates because it looks much nicer and seems more sturdier. I'm not sure if I should agree with him or just get some regular ol' paper plates. I will have centerpieces, guest favors, balloons, a space jump for kids and I'm also going to keep the wedding color scheme going, which is white/silver. The only thing that will be set apart from the wedding is the casual/jean dress (food is messy). Before I give him an answer...

My questions are: (1)Aren't clear plastic plates at weddings used as a substitute for china at an indoor reception because of the elegant look and sturdiness? (2)If I do go along with the nicer plates, will it look TOO fancy for an outdoor/casual wedding reception?

I'm getting married in May and ordered my bridesmaid dresses in November. We just went and picked them up and tried them on and they don't fit! One is way too big and its too short. Then one is so tight my sister can barely breath. Theres not much room for making it larger, because theres not alot of extra fabric. Then the material its made out of is different than the one I picked out. The dresses are paid for and they wont exchange. I want to get new dresses but I need to know how to get rid of these darn dresses! Please give me your ideas!

When I met my boyfriend over 3 years ago I also naturally became friends with his friends. When one of his friends since gradeschool began dating his now fiance, we became fairly good friends and now that they are planning on getting married this summer she has asked me to be in her wedding.

Of course I was honored, however her and the groom did not think ahead well enough because she only has asked four bridesmaids and the groom has 6 groomsmen. She has decided that having more than four attendants on each side is going to "look bad" so she is wanting to cut my boyfriend and another guy out but keep me in. Not only that, but she wants ME to break the news to him. When I asked him how he would feel about this he said he would be very hurt because him and the groom have been friends for so many years

Help! How do I handle this situation without offending her (It's not hard to do!). I don't feel right about being in this wedding and having my boyfriend pushed aside!

This is really complicated but I will try to explain it as best as I can. I have been engaged to my fiance for 3 months now and we plan on getting married in May of 2008. Today my fiance's mother called (she will soon be my mother in law), and she was very nice at first but I couldn't believe what she said to me. She asked me how long I expect the marriage to last.

Is that a common question these days? I thought it was very rude and insulting ... isn't she basically saying that she thinks the marriage will be a failure? I told her as nicely as I could, that I love her son very much and that I expect to be married to him for the rest of my life. She has always been bitter towards me, but I think she really pushed it today. Do you think I have right to be mad about this, or am I over reacting?

My father is not in my life. I have uncles but they also didn't not play an important role in my life. My brothers I love dearly but I really dont feel they should play the role of giving me away. It seems like a role deemed specifically for a father and since I don't have one I feel I should just walk on alone. This makes me a bit sad but that is how I feel. My family and friends feel that it is a bad idea and that I would look silly walking down the aisle alone and now I feel a bit insecure about doing it. Am I wrong? Is there a better way?

My fiancee and I have been together for nearly five years and have been engaged for two. We've set dates and made plans but something always comes up,like his parents hate to day or complain about the food. It's a never ending cycle. So I decided on making most of the food myself, having a small wedding just family and a few friends nothing huge. But he still seems to be putting everything off, saying we don't have the money or making other excuses as to why we can't do it. I just don't understand what's happening with him. I already have my dress and my shoes and the meals are already planned but I'm just waiting for him. Is there anyone out there who can give me some advice on how to be subtle yet firm to get a date set and finalized?

My boyfriend proposed to me on christmas,I was so excited and had dreams of what my wedding would be like.He wants to have the wedding and the reception at his house, there are cows in the pasture around his house. He wants to have a pig roast and everyone bring a covered dish.He also wants a rock band,i love rock but there is a time and place and i cant imagine them humming the wedding march,I was hoping for a dj who has done weddings before who knows when its time to announce and do things and play slow romantic songs to dance to,he lives on a hill there is nowhere for people to dance, park and is not handicapped accessible so the handicapped friends i have would not be able to attend.I want to invite friends and family only that we are close to,he wants to invite everyone,I dont want to feel like I only invited these people for a gift that is why i only wanted to invite people im close to.I am so frustrated and not even looking forward to this anymore.Help me please!

My wife and I were arguing , almost getting a divorce, for 1 year, and she did not come to three of my cousins bridal showers and their respective weddings. We are now on good terms (including my parents and my wife) and getting along. Her sister's shower and her wedding are coming up and my parents do not want to come to these events since my wife did not attend any of the aforementioned events. Is this right? Should my parents act this way?
