well, as mentioned Craiglist under Gigs is a good place to start....
BUT i caution you.....no professional DJ with decent equipment would do it for such cheap money unless they knew you.
dont cheap out on your enetertainment unless you dont care and are having a VERY casual reception sans cake/ flowers and a decent meal.
you want the poor dj to entertain your guests for 200 bucks????? after he spends 20,000 on equipment, has a van to dj, dry clean his tuxedo- meet with you, subscribe to music- drive to your event- set up, to all the public speaking, play the right music at the right time and then pack up and drive home for 200 bucks????? what is wrong with this picture???????
you should TIP HIM THAT much if he does a great job!
how would you like to get paid $7 bucks a hour as a RN,,,,,,

For that price you will not find anything. Honestly. The DJ's I've looked at range from 3000 to 4000. I agree with the iPod idea. Ask your friends to contribute to your music collection. Go through your cd's and import them onto your computer too. Be sure to have someone in charge of it during the reception and don't just leave it unattended. You'll want someone to put on the songs for your first dance, daddy-daughter dance if applicable, song for cake cutting, song for garter removal, etc. You'll also want someone incharge for when you need to pause the music for speeches. I would suggest starting out with slower songs, maybe some Jazz. Then move into faster, more current songs. Maybe stick to intrumental music during dinner, if you're serving a meal. Jazz ensembles are classic and very elegant, but still fun. If you are really stuck on someone to also entertain, look at your friends. Do you have any really out going ones that could man the iPod but also do some annoncements, etc., that would keep the crowd entertained? If you're still worried about entertainment, again look to your friends or family friends. I know this sounds weird, but when my cousin got married, his father's best friend is a professional clown, so he walked around at the reception doing magic tricks. It was really entertaining, and the youngest person there was 17. Everyone really enjoyed it. Look at options like that for people who have an interesting skill or talent and see if they'll volunteer as a wedding present to you, or look at local colleges for someone willing to do it cheaply. Most schools have announcments on line that people can advertize on. You could use this method also to see if you can find someone who likes to DJ on the side, but not a professional. You might get lucky and find someone good who will be cheap. Offer to give them a free meal at the wedding and referrals to all of your friends if the rate is an issue. Good luck!

since the dj sets the tone for the party....stop thinking cheap. we've all been to receptions that were bombs because the dj sucked. you have plenty of time to save a little more for a good one. You need to see where you dj choices will be playing and go see them for yourself before you book.

My husband is a musician. He performs at locations known as "Senior Citizen Centers" and VFWs. They have reside bands first rate inexpensive. Stick an advert up at a song retailer. Ask on Craig's List. Good Luck.

Ummm... $200 is way cheap. You'll end up with some guy who wants to play Freebird all night long.
Get an iPod and some speakers. Import all the music you want and set it to play. No hassle. No annoying chicken dance.

I certainly do. He will cost a tad bit more than that but he is excellent and he plays unlimited hours. He just did two weddings for us and he is fabulous.
