I'm a 19 year old attending college. I live with my mom and step-dad, no bros or sis, have my own room and everythings cool. Recently, I got my first job, its a part time w/ OK pay I guess. And I also get some money from scholarships. All this adds up to a nice bank account . Well, my step-dad was laid off the other day and he's about to retire, so my mom would be the only source of income (she's a nurse assistant). He had a talk with me and told me that I'd need to start cooperating financially >_<. Up to now, I just deal with the Internet/Phone bill which is about a $100. He wants me to give them $300 a frickin month(this includes the phone bill). Do you think this is fair, or should I just tell them to screw off and go live by myself? It can't be THAT expensive, can it?

She had signed up with the airforce that was a great step. Now she feels she should go to college I told her to look at the last for years of highschool and tell me if she was ready. She is just out of control in the way she talks to me and her stepdad of 15 yrs. Its so hard but you want to be fair on one hand but on the other she is so disrespectful to us how do i handle her and convence her that the airforce has so much to offer her. She needs time to grow up.

they had been estranged for years over very stupid arguments, truly nothing major happened. wouldn't any normal person come to make peace before their father passes away? I know I will never speak to them again -- they are dead to me. Just looking to see how others would handle this

I am married, have 1 child and live several states away from my family, but my mother still insists that we "chat" every day and email several times a day. She is very sensative and believes I am upset with her if I do not email her for a day or two. She also believes that when I don't talk to her that my husband is telling me I can't (he's not). She believes daughters have a commitment to their mothers to be "best friends" their whole lives, because this is the relationship she and her mother have. I love her dearly, but I have my own life and resposibilities! Her close relationship with her mother caused her divorce with my father after 15 years of marriage (and she blames HIM for not being understanding enough), I DON'T want to suffer the same fate, but I also don't want to hurt her. What to do??

I am in love with a guy who was working with me. Now i have quite the company & we are serious about this, would like to get married too. But now my mum is looking for a "PERFECT" Match for me who is Mr. Perfect in all ways. She also does know about my BF being my friend & i think she also knows that I might be interested in him. She is not interested in this as i told she is looking for Mr. Perfect. She also told me not to go too close to him cos i wouldn't want to him later. Talking to her about this will hurt her & i dont want to hurt her. My BF insist on me telling my parents about this to go further as his parents have agreed to this & are not ready to support us if my parents dont agree, but i'm sure that my parents will not agree to this & i dont want to hurt them as they have gone thro enough in life & i dont want to hurt them from my end. I am confused looking for help. How do I tell my parents about by BF or how do i go about with this?

From last few years i have observed that gap between children and parents is incresing. Now a days children enjoy thier life in thier own way and same the paretns. We are fastly going towards western culture of this relation. If it continues soon parents and children in India also would be leaving in different house. Ans this will lead to man social problems.

i have a son who will 13 in 2 days, for the past year he has been acting lazy, not turning in his homework, not doing his chores well.. he does them but half fast. he goes to school and tells us how good he is doing. when his report cards come home he is failing 3 of his subjects. he has been grounded, things taken away from him, goes to bed early etc.. not to mention the fact we talk. when asked whats going on he say's i don't know. i forgot. the works to hard, so we went to the school spoke to the teachers - the work isn't to hard he wont turn them in, he lets girls borrow his books because they forgot there's. i went through his backpack and found a lot of homework and school work some done others not. i made him go to school and turn it in. still we are having trouble with him he thinks it's not serious. it can be from school to homelife. he apply's this to and i'm getting angry. any thoughts on what i can do to stop this behavior in and out of school? we have tried many things.

Tell me your worst MIL story. Whoever get's the most thumbs up will get best answer. Here's mine:

When my husband and I had our first child, FIRST grandchild for his family, my MIL started crying because she said the baby looked just like me and not like my hubby at all. This p*ssed me off. She looks like both of us. My eyes and mouth. His ears and nose. Plus she is long just like him. I asked her to leave my room because I was tired and the nurse escorted her out.

i am expecting my first child my may, and this will be the first grandchild for both of our parents. the thing is, my family is very wealthy and my husbands family isn't, (my husband and i are well off too) i have been saving so that i can buy all lovely new nursery equipment and clothes for my baby and my mother has brought us stuff to, but i overheard someone say that my mother-in-law won't buy anything because 'whatever she buys won't be good enough!' im not a snob and have never acted ungrateful towards anything that she has brought me, but im so angry that she thinks this of me! ive tried to get my husband to talk to her, but he just tells me not to worry!
