I'am from a western culture that thrives on grown children
moving away from their parents, and many of us can't wait.
Actually adult children and parents residing together leads to
many social problems. As the bible states man should leave his
parents and start his own family!!

Children do not enjoy their life in their own way until they reach their teens perhaps. So till their teenage, it is the parents who should be moulding them, teach respect and earn their respect. It's nothing to do with traditions or superstitions, its just the family values that has to be followed, whether western or Indian. If children leave the house, yes, perhaps its sad, but that again is only the parents who are to blame. In their struggle for moving with the world, maintaining career, earn earn earn as much money, get everything and on the side ignore their children, that leads to perhaps a child leaving the house. In western culture, it is that they become independant, but in Indian, yes, it is not really accepted. But that again, is all what the parents have to deal with. There is no gap. I mean, not a really large gap, and thats with all of the human race. Its the environment, the change in society, techology, perhaps, children too get ahead of things. This gap you talk about is not related to a country or a religion, it is called ''communication'', again, which points to the parents. And then look, lets not stick to this same old thing of ''following western culture''....I agree to a certain extent, but look, we have to keep moving, the children are future are going to be much faster and forward than you can ever imagine. Its only the bond between the parents and the kids that has to be maintained..

Times have changed I understand what you are saying but I think we see it more as sign of independance and technology.
It shows independance when you can move out of your parents home and live with out assitance from anyone.
Technology also has a part to play, who would have thought 30 years ago that you could send a question to anyone in the whole world and get a response immediately.
If children want to keep in touch with their parents they will use the phone either landlibe or mobile, send an email or use the net so they can see and talk to them at the same time any where in the world.
As long a the children still have respect for the parents that is the main thing. Respect for the parents will depend on how the parents raised their children.

Well ever one needs there own space. And alot of times children have alot of different ideas about life then there parents. So this is were the dinner table comes in sch dinners, vacations. Pick your parents up for movie night call ahead to make sure they nothing plan. Church and notes to say hello and invites for a one on one just because.Single parents may really like this.Parents you do not have to be the caregiver or the constant Buddie Buddie or one of there friends, just stay in contact and listen alot.

even i had the same question in my minds a few days before
i think friendship between parents and children can be a solution but this friendship doesnt mean to let them free but to be strict when required
because you must have seen where todays generation is going because parents have started to be too open minded
i think indias culture is losing its importance but the truth is two or three people cant do anything about it. it should be a collective effort but i dont think todays generation or parents want to change
because they think its"cool" and they want to be a part of the so called hight society

With everything going on in this world it is diffucult.
One thing us parents do is ignore our childrens choices. WE need to not keep up with these changes but open our minds to what is going on.
Listen to your kids favorite music, shows, show interest in what they are doing. You may not like the same interests but you can learn to. You will have a better understanding of them when you conform to some of their hobbies and interests.
The bond between you will streangthen. Do not be negative with their choices. Remember that they are individuals and may actually have alot of your interests that have not been nurtured.

Everyone should do a lot more listening & hearing what the other person is actually saying & meaning! Before you say anything you should take a moment & think about what your about to say, why your saying it & if it will be helpfull, or hurtful to the situation? You should also think about what is the real goal, is it to be right & win? Or is it to work out things so everyone can be happy & feel good about it? And, parents should spend more time just being with their kids & seeing who they really are.

communication is the gap.
it should begin with the parents, they should remove time 4 their kids, spend time with them, and also give them their space.
parents should neither hold their kids too tight nor too loose, just like running a car.too much control/no control both hamper the smooth movement of the vehicle.
