Are you her closest relatives? If you are and she didn't make a will, then you would automatically receive her assets. If you didn't, then she may have made a will to different effects. Did she have many assests or did she live in a council flat or house, or a home? You could contact the solicitors nearest to where she lived, but the Citizens Advice people might be able to help you. If you have any papers of hers, then take them to a solicitor and they will sort it out.

if she had shares then you would still be receiving correspondence regarding them, dividends etc. If someone doesn't make a will then their assets are generally passed to their next of kin, assuming that the assets weren't a lot and didn't qualify for tax - I'm assuming your gran probably had a small house and only a little money so the taxman wouldn't be involved. There is an Unclaimed Assets Register - can't remember the website but you can google it - who, for a charge, will search life insurance policies etc., so see if your gran's name appears and if there's anything waiting for her.

I doubt your dad would steal anything from you! It was a long time ago, did she own her own house? If she did that would have been sold and then divided between her children or whatever she decided!
I think your best bet is to contact a solicotor yourself
