If your father does not admit that he is an alcoholic, then there is nothing you can do to help. You could try calling your local A A. Someone will come to help right away, but if he is not interested then you are waisting your time. You can join Al Non, and go to a few meetings. People there can give you the kind of advice that you really need. That is the best that you can do for yourself, and your dad.

The one thing you don't want to do is tell him he's drinking to much. Not at first anyways. He already knows that Trust Me. I would start with asking him if there's anything that's been bothering him lately, and see if he will open up to you. Another way to bring it up could be doing an assignment on alcoholism for school, and ask for his help on the assignment. This might open his eyes. He needs to stop drinking for himself, and he also needs to want to stop. If he tries to stop for you or anybody else he wont make it. At least that's the way it is for me. I need help myself. Best Wishes

Talk to someone that you trust -- family, friend or counselor, as your dad is probably depressed and watching him go through this is very difficult and can damage you! Go to www.al-anonalateen.org or call 1-888-425-2666 (1-888-4AL-ANON).

I've seen people come back from alcoholism, and I've seen others wallow in it forever. You can only motivate him by taking yourself away from him. Tell him he's welcome to be in your life, but the alcohol is not. Let him know you'll be supportive through it all.
