I take my career very seriously, but it has started to consume upwards of 50 hours/week. My 2nd grader needs more help with homework, projects and attention after she gets home at 5:30. I have a very supportive husband, but his job is starting to demand more time, also. We both need to work to support the household, which also includes two sophomores, one in college and one in high school. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My 12 year old daughter and my ex-wife have finally reached the point that they can't live together anymore. She is moving in with me this week, and changing schools. She is excited about this, as she has made some poor choices at her former school and has problems with a "bully bunch" of girls. What steps can i take with her to ensure she doesn't fall in with a "mischevious" crowd at her new school? I haven't been a full time dad in 4 years, and I'm very nervous.

I love my wife dearly but I am very insecure about her past. I mean the stereo type is that strippers have no respect for themselves; others and I feel a woman is not a woman if she is willing to exploit herself. I mean I could sale drugs but I choose not to because I have integrity. I am just wondering the typical profile of a stripper. I am unsure if she lived a promiscous life style before me however she tells me they were paid to entertain and it is only a job nothing personal. I just worry about walking down the street with her one day and have someone from her past come up and tell me things I just don't want to hear. I mean no one is perfect but I think she hides a lot from me in regards to her previous occupation. What is the typical exotic dancer profile?

My husband and I grew up together. His parents used to be very friendly towards me. We fell apart and then started dating in 05. His parents have been hostile towards me from the second I walked in their house. I've done everything I can think of. I went and visited, I even called his mother every week to see how she was doing. Whenever we go and visit, still to this day, they won't hardly speak to me.

I went through the possible reasons of why they don't like me and I'm still clueless. My husband isn't the youngest, or only son. We didn't live together until we got married, so they couldn't say I was a tramp and not good enough for their son.

I guess I'm just asking is anything I can do. My friends say to leave it alone, but I feel that I should at least try. I married him and that means his family as well.

my mom has changed in the past 7 years. she was a recovering alcoholic, great job, very professional &family oriented for years, well in the past 7 she started drinking again got in2 several drunken car accidents, went on probation, & now 4 the last one that she amazingly survived she might get jail time. well my step father who is a saint & has been with us 4ever (hes the reason she got clean in the 1st place) always stands by her & they fight all the time but still he stands by probably 4 my 13 year old sister, well he had a heart attack recently & the night he came hoem from the hospital my mom goes to AA & then out w/ her BIKER friends til after midnight & said she needed 2 relieve stress. HUH!! so needless 2 say the woman i once looked up to & admired has gone 2 far & i wrote her the nastiest (yet loving if that makes sense) letter telling her shes destroying the family!! well she hasnt talked 2 me since i gave it 2 her & now i regret it. did i do the right thing?

Ok, I have a couple of questions. About 12-13 years ago my father commited suicide(I was 9 years old). My mother had told me that he had a car accident to protect me from the truth but I overheard her on several phone calls that he had committed suicide so I have known for quite some time(I'm 22 now). I have never wanted to know exactly HOW he did it because I am afraid mental images and horrible nightmares will follow my finding out. I had a dream last night and in that dream someone told me how he did it and now it sparks my curiosity, I wonder if my dream was telling me the truth. My mother is no longer a part of my life and I can't bring myself to ask my other family members so my question is, if I obtain my fathers death certificate will it say how he did it? Also, where do I go to purchase a copy? I'd rather not do it online so do I go to city hall?

What is your relationship like with your daughter in law? Are you one of those evil mother in laws? Do you think your daughter in law actually likes you? Because we all know, that for some reason the wife never likes her husbands mother.

my mother-in-law is one of those no it alls, i am married and have 2 step-children and one child of our own with my husband. but, my husbands mother is another story. my husband thinks the world of his mom, but he wont ever stand up to her. when it comes to our kids if we do something that she doesnt agree with she blows up on me, she never yells at her son, but she does me. and when i tell my husband all the mean things his mom said to me, he does nothing, he has never once stood up for me to his mom. example. if she watches the kids for us, and i tell her i dont want them to have any junk food, it return she says, they r my grand-children and when they r with me in my house i will do what-ever i want with them and give them what i want. she has always been like this and i dont no what to do, i tell my husband and he just says thats how she is she is set in her own ways. but i dont no what to do or how to handle an in-law like this. any advice? PLEASE!!!!

My family doesn't but my husband's family does and it drives me crazy! I feel like we are the couple that does everything right and still my husband's family treats us like the outsiders. For some reason, doing the wrong thing is rewarded in his family. What I mean by all of this is they don't give credit to the ones who finish school, go to college, get married before having a family. Instead they support the ones that are not married, have multiple kids and a whole history of problems. I don't get it. My husband says they are the ones who need the help and I agree but why not invite us to family events and why do they support them more than us?

I am in college and have hadproblems in the past such as a major eating disorder, destructive behavior, depression, out of control behavior..la da da. And my parents have been my rock...stuck by me through it all...believed in me, gave me chance after chance. In recovery, I realize that family is all that is real to me in this world. I can't imagine a world without my parents. I think I would die without them...not because they do everything for me...just because they're my parents. How do I show them that I am grateful..without beating into their heads everytime I talk to them..you know I say thank you for everything. I really want them to see that I love them.

I am currently on disability so I haven't been paying child support, however even when I didn't have to every couple months, I do throw her a little bit of money. I am moving a bit closer to my son about 25 miles away, so I can see him more. I am just wondering , without going to court, what are my rights as the bio-logical father, I love my son more than life itself, and I do see him as much as possible, which is usually about once a month, which isn't enough, my son also loves me with all his heart, he tells me everyday,"Daddy, I love you more than anyone in this whole world!" It breaks my heart, poor little guy, the only way I used to be able to see him, is when I travelled to Moncton I would keep him at my parents house, but now she is in an argument with my parents and says that I can't have him over night there anymore, the fight is about, my Mom wanted to take my son to Disney World, and she (my x) won't let him go, cause she wants to see his face when he gets there! How selfish?

I'm writing a feature about including grandparents/aunts/uncles in family life. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who may not have had the perfect relationship with their parents/siblings but made an effort anyway to include them in family life - with positive results. How did you overcome difficulties? What are the benefits to you/them/the kids?
