I take it that you are a mother in-law. It's easy to get your daughter in-law to like you:
1. Don't live together once your son is married and has a family of his own.
2. Don't EVER meddle in their business, especially on how to raise their children.
It's not true the wife never likes the husband's mother, they only hate the meddling ones.
I like Susieq's answer "I make sure that I stay out of their business at all costs". No wonder she gets along with all her 5 daughters in-law.

I don't get along with my mother in law. We are just too different. I care about what I look like, and what my house looks like. She and my step-father in-law treated my husband and his twin terrible when they were kids. Even though they have been forgiven by the guys, I can't get over it. And she is just annoying in every way. She is the kind of person that makes me cringe, and avoid at all costs! Can't help it. I've tried. I just can't stand the woman. And I am slowly, but surely getting her to feel the same way about me. The less she likes me, the less she'll want to be around me. Almost a perfect plan,.... almost.

That is so not true. But quite a few MIL's can't grasp the fact that there is now a new woman in the son's life. They do not want to share and the daughter in law usually has two strikes against her from the start.

I get along great with my daughter-in-law, she calls me, "Mom" and I think of her as my daughter. Before my son married her, I had a long talk with him and told him he better treat his wife good, don't mess around on her and whatever he does, don't EVER raise his hands to her in anger. I didn't raise him to hit women and so help me God if he does, I will be all over him like flies on honey. One of us will be scared and he knows better than to think it's gonna be me.

well i am a daughter in law i know you wasn't asking us but I don't like my mother in law because she is so cold to me.She never really done anything but she just acts like she could care less about me,plus she hasn't hung my baby's pictures up but she has pictures everywhere of my husband's daughter from a previous marriage, she still has a picture of my husband and his ex wife and thats disrespectful to me I think. That woman cheated on him why would she like her more,I cook and clean and take care of our baby and wait on my hubby hand and foot his ex wife never lifted a finger.I don't know but I just get the impression she doesn't like me or my daughter.

You should love you mother in law. I wish my wife could have met my mother, but she died when I was 4.
