Now that my computer has fried 2 of my hardrives im on my 3rd. The computer wont even read this one anymore. it worked in the begging but now i turn the comp. on and the hardrives turns on cause i can hear it but the computer sais it cannot read it

I am trying to defrag my computer as people have suggested. I go to tools click defrag and message box comes up - MMC cannot open file /windows system 32\dfrg.msc. Also states = This maybe because the file does not exist, is not a MMC consule or was created by a later version of MMC also it says i may not have sufficent access rights to the file. WHAT THE HELL. Everything on my comp is legit paid enough can anyone help me by not sending me to see the people I bought it from as I live in Outback Australia my closest neighbours a 2 hour drive away.

Well what happened at 1st was it got forced in, and a peice of plastic came out of place, i went into the cd drive, pulled the plastic back in place, and then i put it back together. When i went to use it, i put in a CD and then it shows it reading for a second, but it cant read the CD... I tried swabbing the reader with a q-tip, and then with rubbing alchoal and still nothing. Is there anything that i can do to make it work? its a DVD-RW burner. I've tried also un-installing it and re-installing it.

My laptop has a partition set aside for Backup. Is there any way I remove it and add it into my primary C drive without uninstalling windows or removing everything on the hard drive (my laptop didn't come with cd's to reinstall windows).

I was using partition magic and i resized my c drive a couple gigs smaller, and now it shows that i have 12 gb unallocated. I was trying to put those free 12 gigs in my other partition i created local disk f -can i do this i need some major help please

I have a Windows XP made by Shuttle [www.shuttle.com](USA). The thing is, it's two years old and I play The Sims 2 all the time. Well it got a corrupt autorun file and when I uninstalled the game to fix it, now I can't reinstall it! So, now I have to reformat or reinstall windows XP on my computer. I still have all the stuff that came with my computer, [disks, etc] but I'm not sure how. There's this one disk that came with my computer and when it pops up it gives you options and one says "Install Windows" is that what you do? I'm not sure. Please try to help!

After a virus attack (which happens every 2 months or so as windows is so rubbish) I attempted to do the usual and re install windows but it just crashes the windows setup. I have tried to access the drive by connecting it as a slave and booting up with my backup drive, according to device manager the hard drive exists, but when i go to myComputer the drive is not there. PLEASE HELP ! !!!

I'm trying to restore my PC using floppies. It seems a lost cause. I am using Norton Recovery discs and can't get past disc 4. The floppies were backed up in 2004, am I too late, is there another way to get to 'system restore'?

I ran the Vista upgrade advisor from cnet.com and it recommended that I upgrade my video card (graphics card). I fell just bellow the recommended video card. I have a Dell laptop and this is my computer info:

Inspiron 6000
Intel(R) Pentuim(R) M processor 2.00GHz
1GB RAM

This is what the Upgrade Advisor told me:

I edit allot of home movies and I have an external hard drive which I use only for saving my video files. For some reason I can't see any of the files on the drive now. There are definitely files on the drive and the files are taking up space on the hard drive but I cant see the files meaning that I can't open them. Please help!

I had one of those windows error messages (the yellow boxes down in right hand corner) that said "windows was unable to backup the file E:\\***\***\whatever. This could be caused by a network or hardware failure" or something similar.

I then went to "My Computer" and the entire E drive is gone. It's not even listed with my other drives.

I've never received that error before, and I have not copied, moved or saved anything to that drive in weeks. I've only had the drive for about 10 months, and this is the first error I've ever received. This came out of nowhere.

Anyone know why I would get this error, and is the drive gone forever?

My DVD drive on my laptop can play DVDs, but the video and audio is slow and choppy. The audio skips and repeats itself. This only happens with DVDs; other CDs play normally. The drive played DVDs fine until I used a DVD decrypter program that can copy the movie from a DVD onto the hard drive. Any idea how to fix this?

ok so i just put a new mobo in a dell computer w/ upgrades because the old one was faulty
well it all worked well until i instauled avg (antivirus) then it reboted and now every time i boot up i get no desktop or start bar/taskbar and i go into the task manager and open/run explorer.exe but it says i don't have permission or it isn't available (im the admin) how can i get it to work

things i have tried:
explorer.exe (won't even show up in the list of prosseses)
reinstauling (won't work with disk, not sure if drives are instauled yet)

things i added recently:
mobo
dvd-rw drive
250gb HD
avg

help please?
