I'm trying to restore my PC using floppies. It seems a lost cause. I am using Norton Recovery discs and can't get past disc 4. The floppies were backed up in 2004, am I too late, is there another way to get to 'system restore'?

Svffys elitest comments aside, doing a complete reformat is actually really simple, & most often your best bet to get your comp up & running fast. If you have the OS cd, just pop it in & reformat the whole HD. I recommend using partitions to protect data you wish to keep from being destroyed the next time your OS crashes. Make a 'Windows' partition & install JUST the OS on that, & save your other files on seperate partitions. This is very easy to do with any version of Windows, & most anyone with common sense can do it in under an hour, even less if you have basic computer knowledge. Good luck!

There seems to be a rampant epidemic of people wanting to reformat their hard drives or reinstall the OS from scratch. Somehow these buzz words are all over nowadays.

Unfortunately, no one realizes what a drastic effort that is. And in a perfect world maybe everything works beautifully, but in the real world Murphy is always in residence.

Forget the recovery effort for now. Can you boot up your system and get to the desktop?

Use your Windows system disc and go from there.
