I am running Windows Millennium (I know). I ran a Computer Associates virus scan. It found several 'threats" and took care of them. Then when I tried to reboot, I got a registry error message. If I try to start in safe mode I just get a blank grey screen. If I try to start in Normal, it tells me it found new hardware, but not what it is, so I can't insert an installation disk. If I skip it, I get a blank grey screen again.

HELP!

When Someone Underclock's a Processor and than put's it in another computer does it save the last speed it was set to such as taking a 2000ghz and droping it down to 1.5ghz?

on my device manager, it has a little yellow question mark with a little exclamation mark near my multimedia audio controller.
can this be why i have no sound at all?
can someone help me and tell me how to fix it?

I am trying to install Sims 2 for my daughter and can't get past part 1! States disk will install 324 MB of data and to ensure there is enough space and press OK when done. Well, when I highlight over the C drive, it states i have 2.96 GB of free space which should be enough, right? I did a disk cleanup and defragment to condense files but I still cannot get the game to load. Suggestions?

I have a seven-year-old Dell Dimension V350. It used to be a very good computer until it got blown away with the new computers that Dell / HP / Apple are coming out with. Although I would like to know what other things I can do to my Dell V350 to be somewhat on the top of the line... Right now I have upgraded several components: hard drive from 30GB’s (what it came with) to 120GB’s, OS - Windows 98 to Windows XP Professional, bought a 256MB chip of memory to max out at 384MB. My computer is running on Intel Pentium II processor.
What other upgrades can i do to my Dell V350?? or do i just have to go out and buy a whole new desktop?

I was looking to get a new motherboard for my dell and would like to use all the current hardwar that i have. I also would like to keep the price below $250. I was also looking for maybe something that i could build on maybe that had sli or could support a dual core cpu if i wanted to upgrade.

My CD drive is broke in one computer that had windows 98 on it, So i took the hard drive out and put it into another computer and installed windows XP onto it. Now that i put the hard drive back into the old computer when i start my computer it tells me that windows failed to start succesfully and it lets me pick how i wish to start, no matter how i start it brings me back to the same screen and nothing happens. Just wanted to know how i could fix this if its possible.

I can really use some help on this.

I have put to use an older computer, P3 450mhz, as a music server. It has the original 40 GB HD with window XP and 160 mhz of RAM.

I had a 250GB HD pre-loaded up with music for use in this older computer. I plugged it in to the secondary IDE channel, using the correct jumper on the drive and position on the ribbon cable, for use as the 2nd channel primary drive.

The computer saw the drive, and was able to access all the files on the drive. Problem was that a few files were corrupt or unreadable. So, I pulled the drive, installed it in my good P4 3.6GHZ machine and reloaded all the music.

Now I'm at the point where the P3 only sees some of the drive, wants to run scan disk, says folders are unaccesable, etc.

Properties says that there is 240GB of data on the drive but the P3 can only access a small portion of it. When I let the P3 run scandisk I can access most/all the music, but the file names are mixed up. I've reformatted too.

Alright looking to upgrade my vid. card with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814161017. The old card is PCI bus with 256 mb. memory. My system is a 2.8 ghz. CPU 1gb. RAM (upgrading to 1.5 with new card) How much better performance do you think i will get out of this new card gamewize? The old card handles CS:S with average 30 fps but looking to play better games such as BF:2 and F.E.A.R. with better frame rates. Dont have a PCIe x16 slot just the x1. Ty for your opinion.

When I try to play music on my computer, windows media player gives me this error message....

HI I have a PC Under XP (Home ) that boots to desktop - shows the Background picture - but no icons - no start menu just the desktop picture - Booting in safe mode = same (black background) Safe mode in all 4 corners no Icons no Start menu. Start from XP Home - goto recovery console - run scan disk etc same result - I did see a command A while ago - when booting with an MS DOS (ME) startup Disk something like regfix / f or similar - but cant remember the exact command or syntax - Any one any Ideas ?
