What exacly happens when you compress your disk space. I know it makes everything smaller allowing more memory to be stored but is that ok for everything I put on my computer? And is there a way to "undo" the compressing?

Which is better to have more of: Ghz or RAM?

I'm not a computer expert but I do know a lot of the basics.

I know that Ghz is the processor speed and RAM deals with performance and smoothness of running programs..
So for example, is it better to have a 4Ghz processor with 2 GB or RAM or 2Ghz processor with 4 GB o RAM?

Lets say that its mainly going to be used for gaming and other programs that uses a lot of memory.
(I'm not looking for a computer, i'm just curious on what's better to have more of)

it is for my rackmount case and the power supply sits in the front with all the connections comming out the back. that means the internal and external connections are all in the back and it pigtails to a connection in the back of the case to get the ac cord out,

And if it's something I can fix, do I have to ground myself? How?
If I want to stop this loud gargling noise, I've just lifted the front about a 1/2" and gently dropped it, and the noise stops....might take 2-3 drops (very gently!).
Can I stop it somehow without taking the cover off?
ALSO, I never shut off, I've scheduled updates to run during the night. Have a good antivirus/and firewall/and anti-spyware. So I sleep well knowing that nothing will tear into my computer. But this noise often wakes me up (light sleeper).

The new ram is Kingston while the old ram is AIR, the kingston is double sided while the AIR is single sided. Each time I slot both in, the PC will reboot after about 1-2 minutes later. It's operate well with any of the ram in any of the slots. I hope someone can advise on what to do, thank you.

If the files I want to burn total less than 700 megabytes of memory, then why can I only burn and play 80 minutes of that?

I mean, if the memory will fit, then why does the length matter?

Is there any way to put more than 80 minutes of memory on a 700 MB disc?

compressing my "C" drive to save disk space or should I maintain the setting of allow indexing service to index this disk for fast file searching....My "preloaded "C" drive is a file system is NTFS. I have removed all programs and misc bs from this drive that I don't need/use to recover space ( got to love teenagers and linewire/myspace im and other bs programs....). but I don't know if I compress my "C" drive, if it will do any good, or will it increase my overall drive...... I clean up my hard-drive daily, and defrag both my bootdrive and visable(if thats what this is) daily along with my usualy spyware and antiviral stuff, so I do take care of my system, and eventually do need to upgrade my hard-drive, but right now, cant, so need a tip or too to free up space.......oh btw, I have gone into my "C" drive and gotten rid of all the useless documents and saved them onto a disk for later use if needed..... any help?

thanks a mil all!!!!!

It appears i need to run in IDE emulation mode, and or need a PCI adapter card as well as cables. If anyone has done this and can advise i would appreciate it. Thanks

I am using a computer that I put together with used computer parts. I check the amount of RAM on the system properties, and it always tells me I have 127MB of RAM. Even when I use two 32MB sticks of RAM it still tells me that I have 127MB. The motherboard is from a NetVista that I fixed. O_o

I've installed one giga bite of new memory but the problem is when the computer boots up everything loads, then when you go to open a program the computer automatically reboots. Is this a problem with the new memory?. The computer recognises the new memory and I have tried it in the other free bays but to no avail. I've taken the old memory out as this is a different size but eventually put it back in and removed the one gig. Any advice would be great, Thanks P.S. win xp, 120gb hard drive, 2500gb athlon processor.

I bent the USB bit of my memory stick the other day and now it doesn't work. Does anybody who knows about the technical side of computers know if this sort of thing can be fixed? I can't see anything that appears damaged on it when I take it out of its shell.

Thanks for any help you can give

We're trying to install a new HD into my brother's PC, but there is a problem. The wires that connected his old HD to the computer itself look like this:

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/6497/dsc02469xe8.jpg

... but the HD output is this:

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/1272/dsc02478qp6.jpg

In case you can't see it, it basically is a rectangle.

The old one had an output like this:

http://img402.imageshack.us/img402/8180/dsc02476el7.jpg

And in case you can't see that, it's basically a load of pins in 2 rows.

How can I fit the new one?

So, the situation is like this. I had this very, very dysfunctional mouse, and I had kept on forgetting (or being too lazy) to buy a new one for a long, loooong time. After the said long, loooong sufferance, today I have finally convinced myself that I DO NEED ANOTHER MOUSE (again, it's a device with buttons I'm talking about, not a living creature), and I got myself a new one. The thing is, what horrible revenge should I take for the misery caused by that old wicked mouse? Give me some distructive ideas, please.
("it wasn't the mouse's fault!" won't do. *It was* precisely the mouse's fault, and it deserves to be punished!!)

Ok, be honest. I dont need the aboslute best... but I do alot of gaming and high-end video work so I require a good cpu, ram, and video card. Tell me what needs to go, my dad bought me all of these parts and I know that some of them are crap. What would you change, what would you keep?

Motherboard: ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe
CPU: AMD Athelon(tm) XP 3000+ (about 2.1Ghz)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with 128Mb memory
Case/CPU Cooling: Fan based (my system runs way too hot)
RAM: 2x 512Mb
Power Supply: 450W (dont know the brand off hand)
HDD: 2x 160GB (Maxtor 6B160P0)
DVD Drive: BENQ DVD DD DW1620 8x DVD+/- RW
CD Drive: CDWRITER IDE5232 52x CD+/-RW

What is good what is bad?

I currently have a NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 with 128Mb memory, and want one with at least 256Mb+ memory. I do alot of high-end simulations and video renderings, so oviously I need to upgrade. What have you guys tried and like? What should I look out to avoid?
