And if it's something I can fix, do I have to ground myself? How?
If I want to stop this loud gargling noise, I've just lifted the front about a 1/2" and gently dropped it, and the noise stops....might take 2-3 drops (very gently!).
Can I stop it somehow without taking the cover off?
ALSO, I never shut off, I've scheduled updates to run during the night. Have a good antivirus/and firewall/and anti-spyware. So I sleep well knowing that nothing will tear into my computer. But this noise often wakes me up (light sleeper).

This is usually fan noise, where the fan is either rubbing a loose cable or wearing out. If the computer is less than 5 years old (it typically takes quite awhile for one of the fans in your PC to go bad), open it up and try to cable-tie any/all loose cables, particularly those that could possibly reach any fans. Remember you have a CPU fan mounted to the heatsync, but probably a case fan, possibly others. Rarely will it be the power-supply fan; however, I have run into this once or twice.

Let me know if you need more information on getting at the equipment.

if you have a tech support technican that can open the computer box, have them clean it.
dirt builds up heat, even the fan needs to be replaced, about 2 years or so.
