Which is better to have more of: Ghz or RAM?

I'm not a computer expert but I do know a lot of the basics.

I know that Ghz is the processor speed and RAM deals with performance and smoothness of running programs..
So for example, is it better to have a 4Ghz processor with 2 GB or RAM or 2Ghz processor with 4 GB o RAM?

Lets say that its mainly going to be used for gaming and other programs that uses a lot of memory.
(I'm not looking for a computer, i'm just curious on what's better to have more of)

Actually I just wanted to know what was better to have more of.

To rephrase the question, if you had a choice to have one of the following:
1. 2 Ghz processor and 4GB RAM
2. 4 Ghz processor and 4 GB RAM

And you wouldnt be able to add any more RAM to the PC. So what would you pick to get the best performance?

A good amount of memory IS important, but if you have too much memory and poor processing power, it will be useless. I wonder if someone will ever use all the 4 GB of RAM.

However, a powerful processor working with little memory will force the system to use the hard disk as an virtual memory. Hard disks are EXTREMELY SLOW compared to RAM.

A balance is always the best choice. Think about it.

As a response to Mario, I will say that probably within the next year, maybe two, 4 GB of RAM will be standard in most any computer you will purchase at a store. Most graphics professionals, and especially video editors, work with 4 GB of RAM.

I believe the most I've heard of was 16 GB in one PC, but I believe that was a specially built system, and I could totally be wrong on those numbers, so don't quote that. ;)

As far as which to go for, it's apples and oranges. You're definitely going to be better off in the long run getting the faster processor to start with. It's SO much less hassle upgrading RAM than it is to upgrade a CPU. For example, that 2 GHz processor you're running will be on a certain socket type for your motherboard, and later on, if you want to upgrade, the processor you want to get will more than likely use a different socket, leaving you to replace the entire motherboard (and also the RAM too, possibly, if you have to go from DDR to DDR2) to upgrade your processor. RAM is relatively inexpensive to upgrade, too (about $100+/- for 1 GB DDR/DDR2). Not CHEAP, but less expensive than a CPU upgrade.

I'd go with the faster CPU in this case. 2gb of ram is pretty good, but double the CPU power would probably be better. It's cheaper to add more ram later on than it is to upgrade the CPU.

Now, if it were closer, say within a Ghz, I'd go with the more RAM.

See the difficulty is your utilising words you don't be attentive to it self. And the question could nicely be taken in distinctive approaches. yet thinking the information. i think of you want to be attentive to the three fundamentals of the laptop. The Processor that's calculated in Ghz is what share computations could nicely be carried out in a 2nd. Its actual asserting how briskly the laptop works. Now at the instant we've multi center processors (twin center, Quad center, Hex center) Now what this suggests, That as a substitute of one guy or woman doing the paintings, such various distinctive processors can do the paintings upto that velocity. do no longer confuse it as each Processor doing 2.2ghz, yet whilst 4 processors mixed it does 2.2ghz of paintings. Now you're able to be able to ask your self whats the ease? of four slower adult men doing the comparable paintings as one million quickly guy. nicely in case you think of approximately paintings. Say your cooking a Dish, you should get all your products waiting. whether one million guy or woman is amazingly quickly, they nevertheless ought to cut back, destroy warmth. yet 4 slower adult men each doing their own activity, one reducing, one mixing, one smashing [as you could inform im no cook dinner] would be lots swifter. ok one down 2 to flow RAM - Now Ram is how lots Memmory [to no longer be perplexed with hardpersistent area] a working laptop or laptop has. a tremendous thank you to to interpert that's, all of us went to college. all of us remember issues and a few forgot some issues. What we are in a position to immedieatly remember is saved in RAM, whilst what we ought to learn back is saved on your hardpersistent. area. So the extra RAM the extra capability it has to act swifter, by using being waiting to keep extra of what's mandatory. Now GB - is a potential of dimension of RAM and hardpersistent. one million GB = 1000 megabytes = a hundred,000 kilobytes. and so forth. so as that's how lots information could nicely be saved on the laptop. So a hardpersistent of 250gb can keep lots information. this does not result the linked fee of the laptop quickly. yet mroe as a dimension of ways lots you could placed. wish this helps.

get the bigger processor because it is easier and cheaper to add ram than upgrade the processor later on.
