Click on 'Start' then click on 'My Computer', then right click on your 'C Drive' and click on properties.
Next click on 'Tools' and then click on 'Check Now' for the error-checking option.
It will check and fix any errors on your Windows XP Hard drive next time you start your PC... It takes awhile to do when you restart your PC but it will fix alot of problems you have without losing any of the files or information you have saved on your PC.

Then i would recommend using/downloading a Registry mechanic or Bug Doctor and use it at least once a week.

Also do a virus check frequently and you can download Windows Malicious Software Removal tool for free if you have a genuine copy of Windows XP from the Windows website.

Hope this helps :)

Sounds to me like you have too many startup programs slowing down ur pc. to fix this go to: 'start
Also it IS possible to remove {or unveil} hidden users via 'regedit' (start, run etc) use ctrl+f and run a search for 'userlist' ...I believe. If a user value u rnt famiiliar with has: $ around it $ u should be worried.

you must look at the memory in your computer
1) How full is your hard drive
2) How much memory is there
3) Do a defrag of hard drive
4)clean you unwanted files
5)Clear all cookies in browser
6)delete all files unwanted
Try you best first if all fails you may need to do a full reinstall of your computer

Try AOL Active Shield Anti Virus, Disk Defragment in system tools, and if your windows is old then that might be why or if your hard drive if nearly full it will take longer.
The ghost account I also have but its un-deletable.
And try a registry cleaner as it will have built up.

Have you got antivirus protection (like Norton for example)?
Run a full system scan to see if any result turns up.I had this problem a few weeks back,it cleared itself up in a couple of days.

LOL Tyler...the repeditiveness of the same questions asked by the same person...

Yes what her said. If that does not work you may have to much crap on your pc. You might want to try a system restore.

Type the following command at a command prompt, and then press ENTER:
%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe

you have too many programs that boot up when u start the computer. i recommend that you either uninstall them if you don't use them like ghost for example, or you prevent them from booting up. you just turn them on when you need them. also, don't use all your hard disk space. having little hard disk space puts a drag on your computer.
