I have a Gateway MX6448 that operates at an extremely high temperature. The CPU fan kicks on at 70C, and cools down to 65C before shutting off. How can I manually control the fan or change the temperature at which it engages? Also, is the fan software controlled or hardware controlled? I realize that it reads temperature to control the fan, but is there software that tells it when to engage or is this a physical property of the laptop?

Without physical shocks to my laptop, my Acer Aspire 1355 LC suddenly didn't work. No display. First, the screen displayed black, the lamp was working. After a couple of reebot commands, no more light from the lamp, this means no image at all. But the laptop seems to start normally, the fan in working properly. When the display was on black (with the lamp working) it seemed that it was some activity on the HDD. Now, no more display and it seems that the hard-disk too has no more activity, even if the cooler is running well. Please help. The motherboard is provided by VIA.

Ok, so I take great care in not tossing my laptop around and have a case for it, nonetheless, the surrounding frame around my laptop screen and the base around my keyboard keeps on getting scratched! There are little black scratches on the perimeter of my keyboard and the frame of my screen (the silver coating is apparently scratched off in those little places). I don't understand why these scratches just magically appear out of nowhere when I do not put any abrasive surface against the laptop and am so careful in handling it. Please help!
