If the bottom is well ventilated, and it not HOT to the touch, then it should be OK. You can get a laptop cooler... but you don't even have to plug it in. (This is a metal tray sort of things with holes and fans. It plugs into a USB port for power)

Probably not. I'm not sure why you're intending to leave it on all the time, but at work we use a laptop as one of our Domain controllers, so it never shuts down. It's been in service for years, and we're only replacing it now because of a problem with the display. Other then that, I don't know of any problems we've had with it.

No. You just have to set you power setting to power down the laptop after 25-30mins of inactivity. You could also just close the screen and the laptop will power down, but not shut down.

i see no harm
long period of inactivity should put it in 'hibernating' mode

just be careful to place notebook on a hard flat surface, so as not to block cooling vents

another drawback could be reduced battery longevity, if u have a ups system, i'd advise to disconnect batteries & use them sparingly & carefully to optimise on battery life, besides battery prices have dropped too

u shdn't really because of build up of heat but u can argue that the fans should take care of that, BUT you will be doing harm to your battery life.
