his guide was developed to instruct readers on the proper procedures for installing memory modules into a laptop computer. It includes step-by-step instructions for the physical installation of a memory module into those laptop systems that have an access panel to the memory modules. Not all laptops have this type of access. If yours does not, then it will probably require installation from an authorized technician.

For additional information about installing computer memory into your computer system, it is recommended that you read any user manuals that came with your computer for specific procedures that may be required. For more information for purchasing memory upgrades for a computer, please refer to the Before You Buy Memory upgrades article.

Before beginning with the installation, be sure to power down the computer. Once the computer has been shut down in the operating system, unplug any AC power cords and adapters. Once this is done, there should be no power lights on at all.

Im the DIY manual.

Flip over the laptop, You should see a few unscrewable pannels, the one near the back is the one you want. Unscrew it, touch some metal with ur foot and keep it there so u stay grounded and dont statically discharge on the chips and blow em out. then simoltanously push the 2 pinclips that hold a stick of ram in to the sides and it will pop up. Put the other stick of ram into the slot and push down and the pinclips will secure it and repeat with the other one.

It's very very very very simple.

Easiest thing to do is find the make of your laptop... (Dell, IBM)
Go online to Dell or IBM and download the user manual. There will be a chapter in there for how to access the memory slots.

I've done this with a lot of laptops -- each one is different in terms of how to access.
