Without physical shocks to my laptop, my Acer Aspire 1355 LC suddenly didn't work. No display. First, the screen displayed black, the lamp was working. After a couple of reebot commands, no more light from the lamp, this means no image at all. But the laptop seems to start normally, the fan in working properly. When the display was on black (with the lamp working) it seemed that it was some activity on the HDD. Now, no more display and it seems that the hard-disk too has no more activity, even if the cooler is running well. Please help. The motherboard is provided by VIA.

There is sometimes a function that makes laptops try to display onto external screens (works if you attach a screen to the back of the laptop). If this is pressed accidentally, the laptop won't display on it's own screen. Try finding the 'fn' key (means function), then looking for the function key (usually F5) that shows two monitor icons on it. Hold down the 'fn' key, and press F5 (or whichever key it is) a time or two. This will toggle between the CRT, LCD/CRT, and LCD options, and may display the normal screen.

If this isn't the problem, you might have a hardware failure. That's bad. Call Acer. But first, make sure you've actually powered down: 1. hold the power button down for about 10 seconds so it powers down all the way (instead of going to standby) 2. unplug it, and pull the battery out. 3. unplug it for a while, until it is nice and cool, then try it again.

If all else fails, try the military 'drop test'. If it doesn't fix it, it's still good fun. Just kidding- don't do that.

Can you disconnect the battery, unplug and plug the power cord, then turn on the laptop?

This the only solution I give you to maybe fix this type of problem.
