i want to buy a 2nd laptop... if i was to buy one from ebay, or the local exchange shop..(i have seen one i like). if it be stolen, can it ever be traced and blocked anyway...is it safe to use... and how would i know its a genuine as in not stolen, item......

I managed to do a hard shut down by holding the start button for 10s, but it won't shutdown using the normal route, window->start->shutdown procedure.

It just hangs on the windows logo but doesn't say it's shutting down. What could be wrong? How do you fix it?

It's a HP notebook. I looked at the battery but it's fully charged. I tried resetting both by the button and by removing a/c and the battery. It worked fine earlier today but now just won't turn on. Please help!

I know HP are saying that they are safe but I would like to find out for my own curiosity. My Laptop is a Compaq Presario V4000 series and the battery is a HP 383493-001 and to find out if it is or isnt Sony made would really ease my mind.

I have a Dell laptop that broken down a few weeks ago. I friend of mine who fixes computers looked at it and told me the problem was a corrupt driver and he can't fix it becuase he doesn't have the parts. What is needed to fix a corrupt driver? I have severla options and I'm trying to decide which one is more affordable.

My keyboard suddenly stopped working, at first the only keys that worked were the g and h

5 minutes later they have also stopped working...

THis is not due to a spill, 2 hours ago EVERY keys were working, I have connected an external keyboard and the notebook can be operated that way no problem.

I can sell my Powerbook 17" G4 1.67Ghz for about the same price I can buy a Macbook 2.0Ghz.

Should I do this? Is the Macbook faster than than my powerbook?

I would miss the large screen. I don't use the firewire 800. I only use the pcmcia slot for a SD card reader. I use mainly Cubase and Logic.

Thoughts?

My Documents have all disappeared from the My Documents Folder and part of my Start Menu is missing. Prior to this I had a problem with the laptop shutting down if I touched it or moved it. What could the problem be? Is there any way I can retrieve the lost information.

PS - This laptop is only 1 month old and had a problem with switching off from the time I bought it.
