Possibly full of dirt, or the heatsink paste has dried up on the CPU. (Common problem) Get some heatsink paste and look up on the net for instructions on how to disassemble your laptop, lift off the heatsink and replace the paste.

how did the laptop switch off? if there's a battery problem, normally it'll warn you and it'll hibernate, standby or shut down properly. this happen due to the APM features in Toshiba satellite. if it's switch off just like that, go blank or complete black out that maybe the cooling system. there's also other possibilities like board, CD drives or even modem (if it's switch off while you are on-line). try to search for Toshiba service center in Singapore using the net.

It sounds like a battery problem. To check that, plug the laptop in a wall outlet, via the transformer/cord that should come with the laptop, and try it that way to see if you need a new battery or you have a bigger problem than that.
