to upgrade ram in a laptop it is very simple... simply flip the laptop over tere should be a small panel covered with a screw in it, unscrew it and pull out the old stick and put in the new one, or if you have two ports simply place the new stick in the empty port.

You have to make sure you get the right kind of ram though, the ram has to be the right latency, speed, and everything to match the specifications of your laptop's motherboard. You could probably find this out by emailing dell and asking what type of ram your specific laptop can take.

As to the hard drive, they are a little more tricky on laptops, you are probably better off just upgrading to an external hard drive which would work perfectly.

I replaced the RAM on my Dell laptop in 5 minutes. Easy as pie. There's a panel you open under the laptop. You take out the old RAM, and snap the new one in. Just make sure it's facing the right way. But you need to use RAM for laptops (PCs are bigger and have a different shape).

Yes, you can use an external hard drive as well. I have one that I use for backup.

You just need to find out what kind of ram your laptop needs. Laptop ram is much smaller than desktop ram. I'm not sure on installing a hard drive but an external hard drive would probably be your best bet.

Installing RAM is sooo simple. It only takes a few minutes.

It's relatively easy to upgrade hard drives. Most you just unscrew the plates on the bottom of the laptop and then unplug the drive and pop in the new. Just be careful you mark the cable before removing it so you can reconnect properly. In some instances the cables aren't keyed and if you reverse them you fry you laptop and/or hard drive.
