Define " Cheap".
OK, I have to edit my response. One says dont go Dell. Others telling you to go Dell.
Here, go to Circut City if there is one near you, if not hit the website. They have an Acer laptop with an AMD dual core ( 1.6 ghz on each side) processor, 1 gig of RAM, 80 gig HD, built in webcam and it comes with Windows Media Center. Also is Vista ready for when it hits mainstream. All for $749 on sale, less than a $1000 not on sale.
Also for you all thinking , "What the heck is an Acer", do some research, theyve been around for a while.

Well, if you buy your stuff online then try Amazon or ebay.. where auctions take place and you can get your laptop for cheap (as I understand less costly)....
In India, laptops have become very cheap.. they range from 30k to the highend range... variety of laptops are good and if you are not looking for too many features then any one will work for you.. compaq, acer, dell, ibm... sony ones are a little expensive...
select your price range and choose any.. technology has developed to a great extent to make laptops problem free equipments...

I would not get a dell. my last pc was a dell and it was very slow. i couldn't figure out why. it was new so no spyware.. just a warning
