HP/Compaq is garbage. Many models have problems with the power interface on the motherboard. I don't know how many I've had to solder for friends, that's after HP refuses to help them. As far as the actual hardware, a lot of the companies will use motherboards by the same manufacturer. So the question is, how much proprietary garbage do you want?

Personally I would go with Toshiba or Acer. If you don't want to necessarily go with mainstream and have a few bucks to spend, go with ABS or Alienware.

If you really want bang for the buck I would stick with Acer.

Without a doubt Hewlett Packard (HP). If you don't believe me, go to a lot of the different sites that let you customize a laptop to fit your needs and check the prices. HP will be A LOT cheaper! It's because HP is streamlined around laptops while dell, gateway and all the other sites are streamlined around desktops. With HP you will higher quality goods, at cheaper prices.

Im with Edwin. they may well be costly and you are going to be able to might desire to keep for somewhat b4 getting one, yet a Macbook professional with a 1Gb pictures card or Alienware M17x with twin pictures enjoying cards is your ultimate guess. Macs have the final modifying utility, and are good with image layout. Alienware are beast powerhouses that may cope with something you may throw at them. the two is precisely what you want. A Dell studio computer is nice, yet its a step down out of your 2 ultimate concepts. So in case you're extreme approximately image layout, keep and choose for the final. good success! Edit: the sony laptops you have been observing might want a extraordinarily good upgrading from the beginning element they supply there. the two might want to pass up over $1200 to experience your desires. and thats baseline. For afterward while the particular image designing is obtainable interior the sony Vaio wouldnt be sufficient and you may might desire to enhance lower back besides =/ My suggestion is to pass with saving for a one time improve to alienware or Macbook. EDIT EDIT: Joe has some good concepts on the HP, yet to experience the twin radeon hd 5870 that come accepted interior the M17x you may might desire to enhance to the NVIDIA Quadro 5000M. which suits to value the comparable because of the fact the Alienware M17x interior the tip. so rather as quickly as lower back its all approximately how lots you have got the money for. there are some good HPs that he stated that are cheeper on the fee of a decrease high quality GPU.

I would recomend Acer. They have superb tech support and quality. I had one of their systems for 6 years before selling it. I never had to replace any part of it, even the battery.

What do you mean by "Quality"?

For a gamer that would mean a good graphics card, but to a software developer it could be a big hard drive, for a salesman it could be a very light weight computer because he or she needs to travel alot.
