I would suggest staying with a Linksys card. And if you know what type of a slot is in your PC it shouldn't be a problem.. although the connection will not be that fast either. If you don't have a type II or III slot, you may just have to invest in a newer notebook..

The Instant Wireless Network PC Card now has a new higher powered antenna that provides greater ranges than ever. The increased sensitivity helps filter out interference and “noise” to keep your signal clear. Improved error correction in the chipset keeps you operating at higher transmission rates for longer distances. And, since you only need one Type II or III PCMCIA slot, you’re free to use your other slots for additional accessories.

Ready to run in Type II or III PCMCIA equipped notebook PCs running Windows 98 SE, Millennium, 2000, and XP, the Instant Wireless Network PC Card from Linksys is truly a “must-have” for all notebook PC users.

Go to your local electronics store. Take the laptop with you. And ask the people there.

Sometimes they'll even install the cards for you for a small fee.

The answer to your question would have everything to do with whether or not you have an open slot on your motherboard to put such cards in and whether there are any cards on the market compatible with your computer.

If you have the Owner's Manual for the computer, take that with you too.
