Or would it be better to try to "scrap" it and get what little money I can for it at this point?

FIXED, it will cost you twice or maybe even three times the cost of a new laptop and more than likely still won't work properly. get a new one.

Open it, dry with a hair dryer on low heat.

If this doesn't work - buy a new one. It will be cheaper.
