If it's freezing up after it's been on a while - it's the cPU overheating. make sure the vent at the bottom is clear - you may be covering it if you use it on your lap. you may need the fan on the CPU and heatsink removing and putting back on with some heat conducting paste.

It could be a thousand things. If you are running XP you can do one of 2 things:- Task manager via the taskbar.
Right click on the taskbar left click on the task manager.
If it has already frozen:- CTRL ALT DELETE together this will bring up a page with a button for the task manager.
Troubleshooting in task manager there is a Tab for performance. Click on this you will see a graph that shows CPU usage. If its at 100% then a process is killing your machine.Go to the apps tab. There may be an app that's not responding. If this is the case heres your problem! Right click on the app and then "End Process". This should kill the problem and allow to fix the app. If its a trojan etc it will be on the process tab. You need to look at all processes to identify the problem. Get a good spyware killer if it turns out to be spyware.

It is probably spyware, worms or adware etc...
Go to www.stopzilla.com and download the trial version for free and if that corrects your problem, the trial version will work for 15 days and you can purchase it for $29 bucks if you want to keep it.
Stopzilla is rated number 1 by C/NET
Good Luck,

Try removing programmes running in the background.
Click on start
Then run
Type msconfig
This will show you what programmes are running and maybe using up your memory.

Lack of memory would most likely be the problem. If it is running slow it could be a processor or hard drive issue.

try defragmenting the drives or stop working in too many programs at a time. secondly, you can format it once if its old(more than a year or even eight months) and reduce the number of programs when u backup all the stuff.
