Desktops - November 2007

I'm getting the 420, can anyone tell me how to do this and what type of fan (and/or other cooling system). I want to overclock my processor and video card a little and don't want them to burn out.

the one is an intel celeron and the other is a pentium III processor. Now, the intel celeron has ms office, and the pentium III has rubbish on it, (i've been given both these pc's mind). Is it possible, by way of cable, or other, to copy ms office onto my more modern pc? also, why does the pentium crash every so often? i've jsut freed up loads of disk space...? ps, would i need to wipe the pentium clean to load on ms office?

I have a KT4AV motherboard (VIA KT400A Chipset Based). In the manual, it says it accepts PC2700 sticks of RAM, up to 1GB in each of the 3 slots it has, totaling to 3GB (obviously). I just bought 3 Patriot memory sticks at 1GB each and having all 3 of them in, windows gets stuck on the loading screen,basially just freezes. I rested everything, so none of the sticks are faulty and each of the slots works fine. 2 sticks work together but not all 3. They are all the same model, brand, and size. I even ordered them all at the same time. Anyone have any idea why it does not work? I couldnt find anything in the bios that could potentially solve the problem.

I want to wipe my hard drive completely before I give it away to a friend. I obviously can't break it and I also no longer have a computer, so I cant use any programs to do it. But, I heard that magnets can wipe it, is this true? If yes, how and what kind of magnet? Also, will it completely delete it? I want to make sure because all of my passwords are saved and I have stuff on it that could easily lead to identity theft if somone gets ahold of it.

My computer either has a virus or something else, but my computer has just got fixed and was running fine, my cousin was on the computer downloading stuff he wont tell me much probably songs n crap. iono anyway the computer wouldn't start n it said insert boot something, n i hit last known good configuration but when i tried to restart it after a virus scan(not completely scanned) it toook a coupld of reboots to even let windows come up again....should i just put it on standby i just spent alot of money on this computer and my cousin freaked it up again! i dont even have the windows installation disk anymore im probably going to have to buy another but really i dont think thats the problem just had a new hard drive installed is there anything i can do? please help!

Hi,
I am getting a new computer because mine is old and slow and locks up constantly. Anyhow, I would like to transfer my music, documents, and photos onto my new hard drive. Can someone tell me the easiest way to do this? Is there some kind of portable USB drive that I can buy, and if so, how would I go about using it, do I do a backup, or do I just save to it, etc? I have an HP pavillion desktop and got the S.M.A.R.T. warning. Disk status: Bad. Failure is imminent. Immeidately back up your data. A friend and I tried installing a new hard drive but windows wouldn't load on it. It had a lot of debris covering the cooling fan on the back and figure that the motherboard probably fried. If I buy an enclosure for the internal drive and try to retrieve the data via usb, will it be forever dedicated to the enclosure? If the drive is bad, what are my other data-extracting options? BTW, the hard drive doesn't make any noise.

My OS is Windows XP. The PC is a Compaq Presario (I think 5100 series) All of a sudden when I turned it on it gets to the Windows XP screen, then a blank purplish screen and then it restarts itself over... and over.... and over. I tried safe mode, I tried continue to last working condition. Nothing. It also is making a weird like wind up noise. I appreciate any help on this issue and thanks in advance. :)
