For the love of God, please do not install Vista. You will regret it!

If you are going to use a Vista upgrade disk , don't delete anything in the Windows directory and it will work. If you are installing a whole new Vista package (full version) , you will format the C drive when installing, so there is no reason to delete anything.
BTW , going to Vista is a very bad idea - it is going to slow your computer down.

To be honest, all the IT guys I know (including myself) are shying away from Vista. It's generally regarded as XP with knobs on, trouble is, no one really wants the knobs!
Sorry, I know this doesn't answer your question. But I've just remembered something. You have to be careful with Windows. When XP came along there were versions that you could only install on a clean hard-drive and versions that you could only install as an upgrade to Windows 98 - it couldn't be installed on a clean drive. So you ought to check and see if Vista is similar before you do anything!

I Doubt, I wouldn't delete everything that's on the computer, you wouldn't want to delete something that's important, i would just install Windows Vista, Just follow the instruction that comes with the CD.

Yes, and make sure you don't buy the upgrade version of Vista, otherwise you'll have to install XP first before installing Vista.
Just buy the full version of Vista (and it will erase everything for you).

Vista will probably work reasonably well but that is not because or in spite of anything you are doing. XP is currently a better more stable OS than Vista. I can think of no real reason to switch.

ya thats fine.
But before you do can I make a suggestion? Just do a quick search on Yahoo! Answers for the keyword 'Vista' - I think you'll be interested to see what you find. There's a reason that this week CNET labelled it one of the ten worst products of all time. It really is bad. Just singularly bad. You could save yourself a lot of expense and headaches by looking at Answers before you buy and install _it_.

I was a computer Instructor and I use Windows XP Pro. That is my choice, I would never use Vista, too many problems with it.

Why not copy everything to disc first? then it is always available again afterwards. We all have to learn by our mistakes, but a bit of insurance does no harm.I AGREE WITH ENGLISH D,i use XP PRO ,myself and would,nt even dream of using anything else now.The only thing that might tempt me would be VISTA PREMIUM but even that is not as good as XP PRO.
