I have an old built pc and it still had windows 98 so i upgraded to windows xp pro and since then i cant get the sound to work, when i plug in speakers the pc doesnt detect it what can i do?

My dad bought it in 1999 and we dont have any of the cds or anything that came with it, it doesnt have a manufactuer bc it was custom built.

Check under devices to see if XP found the sound card. Try the sound card mfr to see if there are any drivers for the card.

Hi. Windows does not detect speakers, it just sends an audio signal. Check your volume control for muted sources. "Start> All programs> Accessories> Entertainment> Volume control>".

Find out what kind of sound card you have from whoever built it and download the driver for that model from the manufacturer's website.

use your utilities cd that came with your computer once purchased, and update your drivers. loosing components on upgrade is normal.
you may also go to manufacture website to upgrade drivers. i.e. if its dell/hp or others you may go to there website, and under tech support they have upgrades available.
