128mb was the minimum for XP when it first came out. After a few service pack releases you really don't want to get below 512mb but 256 is passable with a large pagefile.

ME usually ran good for about a week but then really slowed down, so if you are running it for a while you will notice a difference with XP. But your hardware is older so who knows what it would do. I switched my old 450mhz Pentium II from an old virus infected install of 98 to XP and it ran a lot better, plus I was used to using XP from my other computers.

Actually, by MS standards, the minimum required RAM needed for XP is 64 MB. But realistically, yeah, you should go ahead and add a stick of RAM, maybe add 512 MB (they only cost around $30).

In addition, you have a built in video processor on your motherboard. You could add a video card, which will free up quite a bit of resources for your applications.

XP is a great upgrade over ME. ME was probably one of the worst MS operating systems ever introduced.

XP will not speed up your computer. you need at least 512 Mb of RAM to run xp. I would not do the upgrade.

DON'T waste your money Michael. RAM is not the only shortcoming inside that box.

Buying more RAM and installing XP will only be a waste.
