Desktops - May 2007

One day it just stopped????? Does anyone have any links to download to fix this???? There was no INstalation CD, and they worked fint, til it just stopped?? Did I delete something?? The model # on the Speakers is EMC2.0 by Diamond Audio for Gateway???? PLZ HELP!!! I need sombody help... not just anybody... help someone with st least half of a brain preferably?????

I need to format my computer but the only thing is that my computer doesnt have a floppy drive. I was wondering if there is a way to format my computer without a floppy and without having to take the HDD out? If there is someone that knows how please do tell.

I changed my busted motherboard for a ASrock 4CoreDual VSTA, then changed my 478 P4 processor for a Pentium D. I have two DDR-333 512MB memory sticks and an NVIDIA 7600gs 512MB AGP card. I put everything in place and plug it to a monitor but the screen is just black. No BIOS or anything at all. Tried with a different monitor with the same results. Tested monitor with another PC and it works perfectly. Tried booting with 1 RAM stick or none at all, same results. My case speaker had a broken mole, I used two other different moles to be able to plug them in, but I don't hear any beeps. Everything in the case seems to run fine mechanically, all fans sping, DVD-ROM opens. I reset the bios by using jumpers as indicated in the manual, no change. Video card was working on another motherboard right before I changed it (it's almost brand new) I don't believe I damaged any parts with static or anything similar. What else could it be?

I have a HP Pavilion 542x that I got in late 2002. It has a 1.8Ghz Intel Celeron processor, Windows XP Home SP1 (recently ordered SP2 on CD) and I curently have 256MB of RAM.

I'd rather not spend too much, but how much should I get, and what kind? I usually always have tons of stuff running, like iTunes, Avast, ZoneAlarm, Firefox, Weatherbug, AOL...you get the picture.

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about this...like if there's an easy way to fix it. The CD drive on our computer just stopped working randomly...nothing was spilled on it, it hasn't been damaged, but it won't read or do anything else with a CD we put in it. The green light blinks rapidly but nothing happens. Any ideas would be appreciated. We don't want to pay to get it repaired if it's something simple.

I have a amd athlon x2 5200, and when i run my hardware sensors monitor the second core reads 3.3V but the first is reading at only .66 volt and when I go to the performance tab in windows task manager and put my my cpu under a bit of a load the second cpu seems to be doing most of the work, is my cpu going bad? is it just something with the bios? is the monitor just reading incorrectly? Hmonitor is the program i am using now that is displaying .66 volt on one core and 3.3 volts for the second, when i use speed fan it reads 1.5 volts per core, so is it supossed to be 3.3v total for both cores or 3.3 v for ea. core?

My computer is definitely in need of being wiped clean, but I seem to have lost the Windows XP operating system disc. I called customer support and it would cost me $99 for a new XP disc! Is there anyway I can clear the corrupted files off my computer without having to buy a new operating system disc? Thanks.

I have a Compaq Presario 5000 and I'm thinking about buying a firewire card so that I can put my stuff from my video camera on the PC. First of all, would I be able to do this? If so, I'm confused to where the card would be installed (ie: back, front, etc). Finally, if you happen to know, which card do you recommend. Every now and then my computer will freeze up and I can't fix it. I end up having to restart my computer ever time it freezes. This isn't an ordinary computer freeze. Most computer freeze happen slow and even sometimes makes some noise. This is completely different. My computer never will show any before hand signs that its going to freeze. I can be typing on MSN messenger then all of a sudden it wont let me continue typing. All activities completely freeze and what ever music I am playing completely stops.the mouse will stop working and the so will the keyboard. Pressing alt+ctrl+del will not even bring up tast manager.

I am thinking about making my own computer. Is it worth it really for getting the 1066 MHz RAM? Is it exactly 33% faster than the 800 MHz RAM by comparison? Or should 800 MHz be fine?
