my dell xps 400 desktop wont start up. after i turn it on it jus shows the dell logo and then it goes to a black screen with a blinking white horizontal line(like the blinking line u see on microsoft word before u type something) i have no idea wat to do. help?

Sounds to me like the Device Order in the BIOS is not right That little blinking light after the BIOS Logo is when the Hard Disk Drive spins up and then Boots in your Windows Check the Device Order in your BIOS it should be set for 1. CD-Rom 2. Hard Drive 3. Floppy Drive if it is in that order then check and see if you have a CD rom in the Drive and its trying to spin it up if not Then you might have a Problem with your Master Boot Record for the Hard Drive and need to Reinstall Windows in that Case you need To hit F12 or F8 for advanced options and run a CHKDSK on it to check the filing system. HeY I have a Confir Resolution for this Problem.... Disconnecte all the external USB Devices connected to this system(EXCEPT FOR MOUSE). It Should boot up Fine.. I It it boots up fine, Restart the system, Strike F2 key On your Keyboard as soon as u see the Dell LOGO screen,, Scrool down to the Option Interated Devices, Strike ENTER, Select the Option USB Controllers , Strike ENTER, Change it to No BOOT. SAVE & EXIT, ISSUE RESOLVEd

Unplug your printer. Ill bet you dollars to donuts, you have an all in one printer. All in one means that it doesn't do anything as well as its standalone counterpart.
Just replug it in AFTER you boot, or use an EXTERNAL powered usb hub (10-25 bucks). It is possible, something hurt your boot ini file, but I'll bet its the printer thing. I'd also enter bios (f2 at start up) and set it to NOT boot from usb. Jack of all trades- MASTER OF NONE
