No problem. My computer is almost never off. But it is almost always in use.
Turn your computer off when unattended for several days; unless you are allowing it to do some really big math thing. Let's see what we can do to reduce energy usage... and lower our electric bill.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

Nothing wrong at all. It's actually harder in the machine to turn it on than it is to let it run for days.
Some people will say "what if you get hit by lightening!"
If it's plugged in and grounded ... it is a valid target for lightening strikes. So don't let the risk of a surge scare you out of leaving the machine on if you wish. Just get a good surge protector.
Just make sure you have a router or good firewall software to help avoid a late night hacker scanning your IP address and attempting to mess with your machine.
If your machine sits behind a router it's quite safe from an outside attack.
If you have only one computer connected to DSL or CABLE directly to the internet, I'd turn it off at night because it is exposed to anyone with a network scanner.
A basic router only costs about $50 and provides much more security from an outside attack. Everyone should be behind a router! Plus it allows you to connect more than one machine to your internet connection.

If it's a desktop then it's no problem if theres adequate ventilation room other than wasting electricity, I leave mine on and have it go on standby after 2 hours of non use. I power it off for a couple of hours about once a month.
Laptops shouldn't be left on - they aren't made for continual use.

generally nothing bad will happen, its OK.
but not 100% some computers run hotter then others, and in hot climates thats not good.
my PC runs for weeks and maintains good temperatures, but my laptop will go into thermal shock and lock up if left UN attended for more then a few hours

3 days isn't an issue directly, the main concern i have with doing that is it wears down your power supply and fans quicker and if you do it repeatedly you might end up with a fan going out and if your computer doesn't have a auto shutdown feature for overheating it could burn out your whole motherboard or other parts, but if its not very often 3 days is just fine.

It should not hurt, remember most servers are based on normal pc design, these run for years without being turned off. There are some drives which are not suitable for continuous use, but even these should be fine for quite long running periods.

There really shouldn't be a problem, you're just wasting power . . . your computer will probably go into some sort of standby mode (screensaver, etc.) unless you're using it continuously during the three days.

3 days shouldn't harm it. I've had PCs (and servers) on for weeks at a time before. It is suggested to reboot every so often though.

With proper ventilation, nothing bad will happen. Your electric bill will just increase a bit. And you will also be increasing your contribution to global warming.

Not necessarily, things may start acting funny, then you'd just have to reset it and it'll be happy again. =]
