Whenever I turn my computer on in the morning it never boots up on the first try, it will either freeze up at the windows loading screen or it will just be a blank black screen. So I turn it off by holding the button down and try again and it boots up fine. once in a great while it will boot on the first try, but rarely. Its been doing this for about 4 months now.
Does anyone know what could be going on?? Thanks.

I have an Imac Intel Core Duo with 512 MB ram and 2 GHZ intel core duo processor. The only problem is that I have a stuck pixel on it. How do I return it for a new one? I already have my important files backed up, so this shouldn't be a total hassle trying to scour for files.

I want to get a new mid range desktop PC. I'm looking at a Core Duo (1066 FSB) (I'm open to AMD too) system with 2GB RAM running Vitsa Home Premium. My question is what motherboard and graphics card do I get?

I play a few games, mostly real time strategy / role playing (World of Warcraft, Battle for Middle Earth, CIV 4 etc) so I don't need need a top end card and board, just ones that will cope well with this type of game for the next 2 years or so. Otherwise it's just the normal movies / internet / photo editing stuff that I'll be doing so nothing that demanding.

Can anyone suggest good board and card for those specs?

I watched a programme on UK TV last night about computer repairman, I were horrified to what length they go to :

PC were built by an expert, all this were filmed, the expert losen the graphics card so it wont display, call this cowboy firm because they had a lot of complaints, he arrived in a shinny new BMW, had a quick look and said the graphics card is gone, most likely the memory too, took the PC away,

Next day he called and said the graphics card had indeed gone, and the memory also, cost to repair ? £350 I think around that mark, next day he returned with the PC and said the cause is teh power supply, so as a goodwill, he replaced it free of charge.

After he left, the expert had a look, and found the cowboy replaced the graphics card and power supply with a cheaper model, plus he stle half the memory thats installed, total cost for these parts in value is around £200.

So a simple push back in job now cost almost £550.

Anyone else had this experience before ??

It really doesnt matter what brand or model computer but I have a Dell XPS 400. It was working perfectly at school, but when I brought it back home, it does not turn on, and when it is plugged into a power source, an amber flashing light appears where the usual powered on green light is. It is not a power supply issue (I have tried that). I noticed that by removing the 24 pin connector that connects the motherboard to the circuit board which is located next to the power switch, the computer turns on when plugged in without pressing the power button. Is this something that I can repair on my own or should I try a PC repair shop?

I want a new computer for basic internet use and downloading MP3 files. I dont play games and do not run any other fancy, powerful software programs so I have no need for a top of the line system. Any ideas?
If possible I'd like to get something for $400.

How do I use it? Simple, right?

So we just bought the brand new HP Touchsmart IQ770 pc, it's fabulous by the way, and I've figured out how to use pretty much everything on it, except the integrated webcam. So, someone who actually owns one, can you puh-lease help me? I can see the actual camera in the top of the computer, and I've looked through nearly every file and folder on all the drives and I can't find anything about it. And of course the userguide is USELESS. I have nero and roxio media if that helps any...but I can't figure out how to even use the webcam, so I guess not.

Anyway, please help. Cheers.

I've upgraded my old compaq as far as it will go. Its basically an old motherboard and chipset thats been upgraded too far.

So now im forking out for a new case, motherboard and Processor and 1 gig 240pin ram chip

My problem is i have about 1.25 gb of ram (pc 3200 184pin)

and a friend said i could add that to the 1 gb im buy though all of it would run at 184pin after that.

is this true and is it safe?
