Isn't your PC under warranty?
Tell them it got infected or something (pretend not to know) and they should preload everything for you again.
No point in rebuilding a PC's OS and software when you can get it free of charge, thats what warrantys are for dude.

I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, Spy-bot Search and Destroy and Ad Aware both spyware killers for years. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans etc. AVG does not slow the system down as much as some other products and Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from the following link. http://www.computeractive.co.uk/ On the home page select downloads and then the appropriate category.I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps.

mcafee are probally the most pathetic software manufacturer i have come across in all my years of p.c repairing, fixing and building
the amount of p.c,s given to me to reinstall windows because of either mcafee wont uninstall or mcafee has messed up the o/s,the list is endless
i did come across a mcafee product with no uninstaller, which is basically breaking laws,as if the product has a e.u.l.a(end user license agreement)then it should have a uninstaller
well at least i know you wont be using any more mcafee software,or norton, they are just as bad
i use avast 4.7(http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html)on all my home p.c,s,and i install it by default on all repaired p.c,s,and i have received some good feedback on the program
avast uses little system resources(around 5mb ram),and has 7(6 running actively)real time scanners,including a p2p scanner,ideal for any file sharing guru,s
this a.v.p(anti-virus program)runs in demo mode for 60days,however it can be registered totally free, and this will convert the avp to the full home license
i have tried most a.v.p,s including bit defender,f-secure,a.v.g and panda but i allways come back to avast basically because it dosent hog your memory,to be honest i keep on having to check in security center in control panel, just to make sure i am still protected
another a.v.p that is very good is anti-vir(http://www.free-av.com/),this is another excellent free avp,its comaptible with windows xp service pack 2 security center, and has a good all round protection ability,i rate this higher than a.v.g but lower than avast
finally,if you like to pay for your a.v.p software, then i wouldrecommend nod32(http://www.eset.com/products/windows.php),this is a very good avp for serious users, especially those who want rock solid protection, this is helped by ThreatSense® technology ,a single optimized Anti-Threat engine for analyzing code to identify malicious behavior, such as viruses, spyware, adware, phishing and more
there is a 30day free trial avalible for nod32 ,download from http://www.eset.com/download/index.php
as for your mcafee anti-virus,you will find that it was licensed for one p.c and it may think your trying to install it on a second p.c
if you still wish to use mcafee(not recommended),then uninstall your mcafee avp from your old p.c and then install it on your new p.c
you will need to enter the product key that came with the mcafee a.v.p,so make sure you have this to hand, and once you enter this it should work ok
finally,im sorry to hear you had to re-install windows,if you need any future assistance just let me know
good luck mate!

Download AVG anti virus FREE EDITION - just as good if not better and won't slow the PC down like McAfee does.
McAfee is CRAP - honestly - don't bother with it

For best protection, anti-virus, anti-spyware and a registry guard like WinPatrol should always be active.
