So I put the CD in and restart the computer and everyone friends, online people, and family is telling me that a screen that says "press anykey to boot from CD" someone said something about BIOS and yes I do see that when my computer restarts but I don't know what to do then.

See, the thing is, I really want to participate in SecondLife, or something similar, but my video card is an intell (at least I think it is LOL)....I am not that impatient of a person, and I can wait a couple more years until I buy a new computer, but if it's inexpensive and easy with no complications, I would consider upgrading my video card....help me out here people!!!

I have a Dell Dimension 4600 Desktop computer which I have for 3 years now. Currently I'm running Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2. I just want to start over again completely. Delete everything and start new again. How do I do that? I don't want to "restore" anything. Just start over from scratch. Thanks.

i had a computer, PentiumD 915, 2.8G, on a MSI 7255 board. Ram is 1.5G 667Mhz. Sata running on 80G HDD. 2 casing fans connected thru power supply pins.
my problem is the computer restarted after about a few hours operating. I had reformat it and install new Windows XP, but the problem is still there. Can anybody help? The CPU uses teh supplied cooling fan came with the box. I'm afraid the problem might be caused by inadequate CPU cooling or insufficient power supply. Anyone please help..

OK first is how do u clean your harddrive like to where it is completely blank but still has an operating system, second is on my mother board i took it out and i know i disconnected everything correctly but i have never done it before i did it so i was wonderin when i was trying to get my processor out an amd athlon it had a fan and metal box glued to the top of it unknowingly, i kind of pulled it off and now all there is, is a lil glue spot to a shiny metal square on top of the green back to the processor and what im wondering is once i learn how to clean my drive will i be able to put back together my motherboard and be able to start up the comp and be able to have it working like normal. please any input is greatly appreciated.

For the past few weeks my computer fan has been grinding and groaning and I assumed it was about to quit. Yesterday I cleaned all the dust and junk from the fan area. This evening the noise ground down and completely stopped. Has the fan quit or is it just not making noise anymore. How can I tell what is going on and what will happen to the computer without the fan working?

I was trying to install Hoyle Board &Puzzle games onto my computer, and when it was about 75% finished with one of the installations, an error message came up and said that a file named "data3.cab" was missing and it could not finish installation. Is this a Windows98 problem? Do I need to update my OS to fix the problem? I think I've seen this message before on an older computer I had. These games installed just fine on my last computer that I gave to my father-in-law, but this one I have now, which is also used, is having this error message. Any advice?

In my first post a few weeks ago, I said the CD-drive was a quantum fireball. I now know that it is a Toshiba CD-ROM XM-6402B . Our old PC is running on Windows 2000. Actually, the CD drive did not open or read CDs for about 3 months. Starting up the computer and glancing at the status light would tell us if it worked. When it didn't, the light flashed constantly, with the last flash in the sequence lasting a bit longer than the others.
Anyways, yesterday morning, on startup, the light did not blink; in fact, we popped in several CDs to play to test that it actually was working. It was listed in System tools, under system information, and a few other places, and the system said it was working fine. Today, when we started up the computer, the drive didn't work. The computer even said that there were no CD roms in my computer.
I'm sick of this. Is there any way to fix it without booting the whole computer or editing the registry? It obviously still has life in it.

I just bought a new HP desktop computer with Vista Premium and 2 GB RAM and 320GB harddrive. When I look at the memory meter of the computer it says its only using half of the 2 Gb RAM. Its only using a gig. Why is that?! We have 2 gb and wouldnt it be even faster if it used all of it??

Ok, so I was cleaning the inside of my desktop. I pulled off the heatsink because it was very dirty. Honestly I did not know that the processor chip would come out too. Before yesterday I did not even know what a heatsink was.

Anyway, the chip is a pentium 4 with hyper threading, 3GHZ/512/800. It is also a 478 socket. I want to replace the chip, but I don't want to spend a lot of money. The reason I took it apart in the first place was it wasn't working properly. I'm afraid that if I go and spend alot of money on a replacement chip that I will get it started and will have the same problems.

I would like suggestions, do I need to replace it with a chip of the same specs? If not, can anyone suggest a cpu chip that would be appropriate.

Just to let you know about me, I currently do not know a whole lot about computers, but I am generally all around handy(Jack of all trades, master of none). And I do catch on quickly to this sort of technical thing

Whenever i start up my computer it just randomly decides to shut itself off after about 5 min. I already check about it overheating and this isnt the case. The fans are fine. 1. I bought a new PC in January 2007. It was fast with the initially loaded programmes. In April, I loaded MS Office 2007. After that the PC has slowed down quite a fair bit. The response time for other programmes also slow. Why is this happening? What is it due to?

i hve never tried this b4. and i dont hve any basics in overclocking. i could find some terrible postings dealt with wiring , soldering and all. i dont want me burn the only one pc i hve so, could u plz tell me is there anyother safe way to do that. i hve also heard abt jumber settings and multipliers..i know it deals with clock speed. and we can increase it by setting the jumper to another level.......actually i cant practically find anything like that on my motherboard....expecting satisfying answers...

OK, I have a computer at work that sucks and without the Admin. permissions I can't fix it.
My question is, if I hook up a USB hardrive with a OS on it, can I pull the shortcuts of the work PC hard drive and use it. I need programs that are installed on my work PC to log into my phone etc.

Ok when i started it i left a cd in the computer and it had some windows NT operating sysyem stuff on it and it said somthing then press f1 to resume so i did and i took out hte cd and it said that system updated what do i do I really need this computer for my schooling before 5 days is up if any body can help me thanks!!! Also it says restart if this is your first time if nor restart and press f8 for safe mode but when i do it does the same thing ???????????/
