I have dimension 8400 and want to upgrade my hard drive, but I don't know which one to buy and comparable to my computer.

look at the harddrive u got ... if theres a large wide ribbon cable coming out of it u need an ide harddrive ... if its got a small thin cable + a power cable then its sata ... and if ur pc is older than about 4 years then u may have a harddrive size limitation also ...

That depends on what you want to do with it. If you're doing lots of high-end work, like editting music or videos, you want as much hard drive and RAM as possible. If you're just doing e-mail, surfing a bit, etc, a smaller drive will work. But getting a little too much hard drive is lots better than getting too little, so if there's a doubt, get the bigger one.

You can find out how much you have now by right-clicking on the START button, selecting "explore". Then find the C: drive, and right-click again, and select "properties". It will display "used space", "free space", and "capacity". The capacity total is the size of your drive.
