so if i glue the fan back to the back of the CPU and plug everything back in, then just put in the OS cd and press a key when the prompt comes up during boot and then what? cuz my comp acts very shady and i would like to just wipe it clean and start from scratch.

first lesson........ If u dont know much about repairing a comp.always take a picture an a note of the device before u begin to repair. it is important as ur reference in case ur got problem. do make sure that u have completely install all nessecsary cable. that lil glue is important to the thermal probe.without it ur processor might me at risk of overheating.so u should be extra carefull when servicing ur cpu.
Restart and put ur Os cd. Press a button (sorry,i forgot the button) until u come to the start up menu. then u can format ur hard disk and install a new OS. Always make a back-up. Good luck!!

Try an OS repair first like this one:

Your OS may have been damaged. Then scan for virus or malware.

That shiny metal square is the processor cover or heatspreader. On top of it is thermal paste. Do not replace it with glue. When you mount the heatsink w/ fan, be sure it is properly aligned.

If you don't know what you're doing you shouldn't do it !! The "shiny metal square " is the back of your processor. The " glue " is thermal compound. If you don't put it back together right you will fry your CPU (processor).

first if you have the OS cd you have to format the hd and then install just the OS, some computers have that option in their back-up programs, also you might want to create a start-up disk before you do all this. for the processor I think that you'r not suposse to do that , but you can try...
