Steve your friend is an idiot. And please, do show him this and tell him to email me if he disagrees, because he has no earthly idea what he is babbling about. One, thats just one, of the two cores in a Core 2 Duo is faster than any single core processor availabe today, so you can obviously imagine that two of them are even better. This is because of faster FSB speed, and more IPC. And if your friend doesn't know what IPC is, which I doubt he does, then he shouldn't be talking about processor performance.

So to answer the question, yes they are worth they hype.

No, my friend who is a computer science student says they are really just two weak processors youd be ashamed to have in your computer individually running in tandem. Intel's new underhanded way to make money. Rather than spend the time to make a powerful single processor, they just crammed two mediocre processors together and people think they must be the s#it since there's two of them.
