Desktops - March 2007

I have an mac G5 computer. version 10.4.9. Do I have a dashboard, what is a dashboard, where do i find this dashboard or where can i download it from? Thanks bunches btw this is a 17 year old girl, I know my fair share about computers but please so techno mumbo jumbo i will be so lost!

The PC will not start up, it says it was closed down improperly last time and says start in safe mode, normally or last time you knew it worked.
In safe mode it says something to do with partitions, and normal and last time it worked it just keeps going in a loop and I can't read the error message. I have tried to press F10 when it is starting up but no luck.

Can anyone help?

I have a 5 year old packard bell computer with windows ME. It is blocked and refuses to respond to anything!! I have pressed F8 and F10 and F12 but nothing happens. It has been suggested that I reboot using the recovery disc but I am afraid of losing all my documents. Will I loose My documents and folders and soft ware I have inserted if I reboot?

Hi is it better to use 2 hard drives one for data and the other for operating system incase you have a virus it would not affect the data drive. OR if I use one hard drive and have 2 partitions on there which is OS and data, would the virus affect the data on the same hard drive? Thanks let me know.

i wanna know if a different processor is faster, ok so would a 3GH computer with intel celeron (which is better than pentium 4 right) be faster than a computer at 3GH with a pentium 4?? i dono if you get what im tryin to say if not ill try to word it better

I use my computer as my DVD player and recently I had just finished watching a movie and put another one in and now it will not run smoothly, both video and audio. It isn't the DVD because I have tried several of the ones I have and now none of them run smoothly. It is not the program because I have tried using 2 different programs to play them with no luck (windows media and hp dvd player). I got my computer for Christmas so it is very new and has lots of space on it still. It will play audio CD's with no problem! Help me please. Is it possible the reader is dirty or has been displaced a tad? If so how can i fix that? I use my computer a lot to watch DVD's so I'm hurting here!

I'm in a situation where I might have the ability to buy several used computers. What is the best way to check to make sure everything is functioning properly assuming the operating system is Windows XP? If there are several ways, what is the quickest and what is the best? I'd like to know the quickest because I want to be able to run some kind of diagnostics check on the spot before I buy it. I want to know the best way, so I can know everything is okay before reselling it.

I just recently upgraded my computer and i am now unable to start Windows XP. My computer boots up fine but then it gives me an error saying that it is unable to start Windows.
I am currently on my second computer.

These are the things i upgraded:
Motherboard
Processor
RAM
Graphics Card
Power Supply

Does anyone know an error in the hardware setup that would cause my computer to boot but not run Windows?

i have a hp DVD writer 740B and it recognizes dvd and plays them, but it wont recognize blank cds when i try to record audio. i have tried updating the firmware. i used an air can to spray out dust bunnies but no use. pleae help me on this issue. how much do external CD buners, basic ones?

My stepdaughter likes to keep aim running all the time. This prevents the computer from standing by. I turn off aim, she turns it back on, etc. Is there any way to force the computer to standby after so many minutes even though there is a program (such as a game, internet explorer, or aim, etc) running? Thanks.
