Here's a list of processors for you, from slowest to fastest:
1. 5 Ghz Celeron
2. 3.6 Ghz Pentium 4
3. 2.4 Ghz Athlon 64
4. 2.1 Ghz Core 2 Duo
5. 2.0 Ghz RISC processor

Number 5 is about 4x as fast as number 1, because a processors' speed isn't what makes it fast. What makes it fast is how many calculations it can perform per second. It's really all about their design characteristics, not their speed.

Intel is the Chip maker. They make two types of Chips: Pentium and Celeron.

Pentiums are the full feature chip that cost more than Celeron.

Celeron is a "brain dead" chip on the lower price line for those that cannot afford the full feature Pentium.

Celerons were created to compete with the Lower Price (and Full Feature) AMD Chips

In those days, the Celeron came with no L2 Cache, or a very small L2 Cache. Today, the Celeron has Half the L2 Cache as the Pentium Full Feature Chip.

Example: A 3 GHz Pentium with 512 MB L2 Cache will have a Celeron clone 3 GHz but only with 256 MB L2 Cache. Same Chip, but less resistors and wires in the Celeron. The Pentium version may cost $600, but the Celeron would cost $400.

Celerons are HORRIBLE, Even the Celeron D get's completely outperformed by 5 yr old Pentium 4's.
Celerons are made to be cheap for department store computers.

I believe the break down is about like this: Dual Core: Actual is same as listed speed Core 2 Duo: Processor is aprox. 140% listed speed (40% faster) Core to Quad: Processor speed is 180% listed speed (80% faster)

No Pentium 4 is way much better, way better than Intel celeron, at any processing speed.

The Celeron is a value priced processor with less features & capabilities than any Pentium 4.

It is aimed at business PCs that do not require the intensive CPU power necessary for consumer multimedia & games.

It is no match for a P4 ..... by ANY benchmark.

* thumbs down are expected from disillusioned Celeron owners.....LOL...

If you are a multitasking user, use a dual core processor - Core2Duo/CoreDuo from Intel or Athlon64X2 from AMD. Never use Celeron 'cause it's performance is the worst. If you can't spare, try any non-celeron processor.

basically celeron was designed by intel for cheaper prices and to compete with other processor and their performance as well in computing has a vast difference so if you are planning to buy a celeron to compensate for the speed in processing try to put a 1gig or 512 RAM on your computer memory.

The pentm absolutely DEMOLISHES the celeron. You got it wrong, bubba.

you can have a fast processor but if motherboard isn't good or if not enough RAM, then that fast processor is worthless.

where a slower processor that has a good motherboard and a lot of RAM, can actually beat the fast processor.

Its the entire package that makes it fast.
