I upgraded to Windows Vista....and now I have no sound. I dont know what has happened. My computer is detecting my sound card. It also states that my sound device is working properly but I have no sound what so ever. I have tried WMP, Rhapsody, and Yahoo Music and I am not able to hear any of it.

My computer is fine for what I use it for, but runs a little slow. I have a DELL with Windows xp home. Pentium 4 cpu 2.4 GHz. 2.39 GHz 384 MB of ram. BCM v.92 56k Voice modem. The capactiy on my hard drive is 37.24 GB. I have 28.4 GB of free space. I use dial up. Is there anything I could do to make it run a LITTLE faster? Also, when I do a disc clean up, I can never seen to delete compressed files. What are they, how can they be deleted or adjusted to not have co many. I think I have 38,000 or more. Thanks. If you need more details, feel free to email me.

Hello,
I have no idea what this is called, but once I figured out how to go 'back in time' on my computer by fixing the computer settings to go back to a time before I made any changes to it. It goes back to however the computer settings were before I changed anything?! I was wondering if someone could tell me what that is called on here, and also what I need to do to get to that part of the computer to fix things! Thanks

i recently built a custom computer and it worked fine while i was installing a os and testing out my fps in various games :) anyway after about 8 hours the computer wouldnt turn on anymore. It seemed to freeze whenever i turned it on. After poking around for a bit i noticed that soon after turning on the northbridge chipset got EXTREMELY hot, too hot to even slightly touch the heatsink. so i sent it back to asus and received a new one. I put the beast back together and it still doesnt work, but the northbridge chipset isnt as hot now. im at a loss for this, i have even stripped it down to bare minimum components and i get a instantly frozen computer and nothing on my screen. below are my components:

Ultra 400w V-Series PSU Black
eVGA GeForce 7300 GS 256MB PCIe w/DVI/TV-OUT
Seagate 320GB Serial ATA HD 7200/16MB/SATA-3G
Asus P5NSLI Socket 775 Motherboard
Corsair TWINX 2048MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz (2x1024)
Intel Core2Duo E6600 2.4Ghz 2M 1066FSB Socket 775

I have a TIG based PSU.
When I turn on my PC the lights in the house go dim and the fridge stops working.
Sometimes as I start to play games and OC my PC the street lights start to flicker.
The wires to my PC are all water cooled to prevent them from melting.
My house had to be rewired six times to keep up with my energy demands.
Now that is the BEST PSU....?

The warranty just ended and I've hardly used it at all. Could it just be dust or something? (I live in the country and dust is abundant) Also, it's a Lightscribe CD/DVD burner if that helps any with deciding what might be wrong.

I would like to install a third IDE hard drive, but I was wondering if it's possible. I have found this cable: http://www.cables4computer.com/newproduct/Prod_Individual3.aspx?groupcode=I1106 , which can connect up to 4 hard drives at once, but I don't know if it will work.

I don't want to take out my cd/dvd drives, and I need to install a third hard drive. Please help.

I reinstalled windows a couple times, after a few months, I have to reinstall again cause files are corrupted or deleted. Now, I keep getting the same error when I try to start it. The unmountable boot place or whatever it was. I tried doing a recovery a couple different ways, but each time it restarts and nothing is fixed. I start it and it says that there is still errors. So is it the hard drive or something else? I tried the microsoft troubleshooting page but nothing fixed it.

Having bought a new pc from dell 2 weeks ago i have had nothing but hassle - vista product key claimed not genuine. I've spent every night on the phone to India call centre and have only after 2 weeks managed to get them to agree to refund the computer and take it away as not fit for use. I'm curious if anyone else has had a similar problem?

It use to be a no brainier with building vs. buying.
Now the cost factor has shrunk and the choices for P4 boards is just plain confusing.
I don't even understand the difference in socket 423, 478, etc.
I am currently running on a P3 with processor and memory topped off and parts from about 3 or 4 different computers.
It's getting me by because I'm not a gamer and I use it more for business applications, but I know I will need a solid P4 build of some sort in the near future.
Any suggestions on an inexpensive but reliable build. Also should I consider a AMD or Celeron? I would love a core 2 but it may be too pricey. I'm trying to keep it well below a grand.
