I would like to install a third IDE hard drive, but I was wondering if it's possible. I have found this cable: http://www.cables4computer.com/newproduct/Prod_Individual3.aspx?groupcode=I1106 , which can connect up to 4 hard drives at once, but I don't know if it will work.

I don't want to take out my cd/dvd drives, and I need to install a third hard drive. Please help.

That will not work for that purpose. That cable is used to provide more flexibility in the drives installation. The IDE controller on your computer can only accept one master and one slave dirve per connector.

From what you described you have two HDD and two optical drives. So you are out of IDE connectors.

You have two options:

A PCI IDE controller. This is an expansion card that you install in one of your PCI slots to provide additional IDE connectors.

Or an external HDD enclosure. These come in USB, Firewire and SATA flavors. The nice thing about external drives is data portability.

You can only have two drives on the primary channel and two on the secondary channel. If the cable is allowing four connections, that won't work for you. If you already have two internal drives and a cd and a DVD all on the IDE channels, then you're out of lick unless you get another IDE controller. Or you could get an external ide-to-usb device.

Im wondering why do u need a 3rd hard drive, unless ur hard drives r close to runing out of space. U have 2 options, with the cost of hard drives so low,,i would just buy a high capacity drive and replace the one that is running out of space,,or u can get an external usb HDD.

I used to own a three year previous Dell, the 2400 series, its IDE ATA HDD replaced into initially a one hundred... yet i imagine it may help a 133... it truly is extra useful... so i imagine you're maximum suitable off with the 133, it will downclock if necessary... if no longer, you could continually promote it on eBay.. ;) in case you nevertheless have thechronic... that is going to say it...
