You probably have a lot of programs set to load when boot your PC. They are listed on the bottom right of your screen. They all they take up a considerable amount of memory. To correct this, go to Start, Startup and you can delete some of the icons listed in the startup menu. You can also go to the Properties for each one of the programs and uncheck the "start with Windows" option.

Boot time has to do with how many start up files you have in your Profile Start menu folder, plus start up files/programs in you all users start menu folder and all the applications in your all user folder.

How many ICONS do you have on your desktop?

Each one takes up RAM and your system can never use that RAM for processing or any thing else!

How much Ram do you have? While so many say 1GB is enough, they over look the number of programs/utilities that are running to support the Operating System along with TCP/IP, picture pixel conversion, instruction conversion, graphic requirements, SWAP file requirements as the system SWAPS files/programs in and out during the clock cycle. All of this requires RAM; we will not even go into addressing, readdressing, conversion, indexing and routine calls.

Other issues are, over bloated register with invalid addressing/address. Badly fragmented hard drive requiring 2 or 3 hundred address resolutions for one file.

go to c:\documents and Settings\your profile folder name. Open the folder Cookies and delete all entries. Go to the folder Local Settings, open the folder TEMP, and delete all entries. In the folder Temp Internet Files, delete all entries, Delete all entries in the folder RECENT.

Go to C:\WINDOWS; look for the folder TEMP, delete all entries that the system will allow.

Empty the RECYCLE bin. Defrag your hard drive. If you have Register Cleaner software, run it.

There's lots of things that can cause this. If you're connected to a router or a home network - many times it needs to make that connection before it will load. Sometimes AntiVirus runs stuff at boot time - as well as some other programs.

Typically it's router or home network related. Make sure you do disk cleanup and defrag once in a while. It can make a difference.

You might beed addtional memory. Anything below 256 should be consider super slow. Most computers from last year were 256.

You can also try disableling your Instant messengers or other programs that load up during start up that you really dont need.

Because you have to many processes running at startup.
Turn off programs (processes) you don't need at startup.
To do this:
go to START
go to RUN
type msconfig
press enter
go to the startup tab
Uncheck what you don't need at startup, but make sure you don't turn off your antivirus and firewall.
Computer will reboot and startup with new settings. It will also display you are running in troubleshooting mode.
Check the box "don't show me this again"
click okay

go into your bios (by pressing del, F1, F2 or some other key at startup) and then change your boot sequence
make sure your hard drive is selected as the first boot device
your computer is doing this because it is checking CD/DVD-ROM drive(s) and/or floppy drive(s) and/or other media for boot records

The best way to speed up a computer is to add real memory RAM

do defrag if you want your computer to speed up. Your computer ran at its peak when it was first loaded. After that they all slow some, unless you defrag often.
