i recently built a custom computer and it worked fine while i was installing a os and testing out my fps in various games :) anyway after about 8 hours the computer wouldnt turn on anymore. It seemed to freeze whenever i turned it on. After poking around for a bit i noticed that soon after turning on the northbridge chipset got EXTREMELY hot, too hot to even slightly touch the heatsink. so i sent it back to asus and received a new one. I put the beast back together and it still doesnt work, but the northbridge chipset isnt as hot now. im at a loss for this, i have even stripped it down to bare minimum components and i get a instantly frozen computer and nothing on my screen. below are my components:

Ultra 400w V-Series PSU Black
eVGA GeForce 7300 GS 256MB PCIe w/DVI/TV-OUT
Seagate 320GB Serial ATA HD 7200/16MB/SATA-3G
Asus P5NSLI Socket 775 Motherboard
Corsair TWINX 2048MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz (2x1024)
Intel Core2Duo E6600 2.4Ghz 2M 1066FSB Socket 775

Ultra 400w V-Series has a 20 amp 12 volt single rail. That is too low. I'd suggest 26 amp minimum on a single rail or 18 amps each on 12v+1 and 12v+2 (dual rail). I'd buy a quality name brand such as Antec or Enermax. Ultra wouldn't be my choice.

instantly frozen as in it starts up but then freezes, or as if you turn it on and nothing happens at all?

if it at least turns on it's probably bad RAM or you need a new cpu fan/heatsink.

if its not turning on at all than it might be your video card.

im thinking its most likley the ram since current motherboards usually have fail-safe's against cpu's overheating, and shutoff by themselves, while if the ram is defective or corrupt your computer would most likley just freeze.

Your power supply doesn't have enough power for that computer, which is why it only worked for 8 hours; you've now burned it out. You can't run $800 worth of computer parts with a $29 power supply.

are any lighting fixtures fixtures in any respect flashing on the case itself jointly with a capacity or HDD indicator? Btw, do you have a HDD or SSD? ok, stupid question, of direction you do... If the exterior build worked, then you certainly've by danger forgotten to plug interior the connector from the capacity button on the case to the motherboard.

When exactly does it freeze? If its freezing after windows has loaded, it could be that some of your components are not seated in 100% and re-seating will most likely help.

Seems like not enough peek power to get it fired up.
hope this helps
good luck.

Your processor is fried, your heat sink/fan wasnt working on your prior mother board and it killed your processor...either that or your Ram chips arent set snug enough~
