A lot of the time ... YES... Not many computers are proprietary anymore. Even the E machines, Dells, HP and Compaq computers use various motherboards manufactured by other companies.

The BIGGEST thing is the BIOS are programmed by the LABEL. So the RESTORE CD will NOT work with a OEM

I would change cases though… Cases are about $35.00.. A lot of the times Power supplies are the main cause of a motherboard failure… Weak power supplies end up doing more harm than good…

Guess it really depends on how "proprietary" the proprietary case is.
