For optimal performance set your "Initial size" to your physical RAM x3 and your "Maximum size" to that number + 1000.

If you're frequently running out of virtual memory then it would be a good idea to increase it. Nothing bad will happen if you do this, but you will now lose an extra ~700MB of your hard disk space because this will be reserved for virtual memory. If you're really using up that much virtual memory, you may want to consider purchasing more RAM. Virtual memory and disk swapping is MUCH slower than actual RAM memory.

Virtual memory is typically memory that is on your hard drive. When you run out of RAM memory it transfers data to a spot on your hard drive. By adding virtual memory it will allow your system to swap out more data to the hard drive but it slow the system down. Your hard drive probably runs in the micro-second range while your RAM runs in the mili-second range. (much faster by 10X or more) To increase the speed of your PC try installing more RAM memory.

please continue to allow your computer to manage your VM allocation, if you are low it automatically increases so that you might slow your computer down if you did change it by capping yourself off.

however: Start>control panel> system> advanced> under performance click settings> advanced

click change
click the custom size radio button and put whatever your normally running at under initail then wutever u want under maximum. click ok till you are asked to reset do so and your done.
