The person wants them to be networked together on a LAN with 100BaseT. Assuming I utilize a switch and each run will use a 25 foot cable.

What could I expect to have to spend on this project ,including the cost of NIC's for each PC. This would include specific costs involved as well as the bottom line cost. I would need to know the standard business costs without discounts.

It shuts off at very random times as if I have pressed the "off button". It does it even when there has been no keys pressed and when there is no task being performed. It will run normally for hours on end then click-off and continue to click off even as I am trying to restart it. It seems to be better after it sits for an hour or so before restarting.

Is it possible to have a Windows XP Home computer route all traffic, except that of a specific IP, MAC, Name, or IP Range, over one network interface (wireless), and route only the information destined for a specific computer over a different interface (Ethernet).

I don't want to bridge connections, as the second computer (wired) cannot have access to the wireless network, but I would like the first computer (wireless & wired) to have access to the wired computer. Security is really not an issue, so it doesn't have to be hacker-proof.

I would think this was not possible, except for these statements:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/chats/transcripts/03october21.mspx
^ Search for "if you're joined to a domain"

http://www.hackerthreads.org/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=1056&sid=1238dfe940ea8a60bd5883fda6fd215f
^Search for "When I attempt to ping"

Sorry I couldn't include the full text, but it was well over 1000 characters.

Hi - this is a follow-up to my last question. Despite the very good answer I got, I am still perplexed as to what I should do..Let me start over: There are lan(cat5e) sockets and wiring already installed across the house. In a storage cupboard there is a cat5e box, with a row of cat5e sockets on top. Inside this glass box there is one cable without an RJ45. I thought of fitting the RJ45 and connecting my BT homehub with it. Have also connected the Hub to the BT master socket -also in the cupboard. Unfortunatelly, the wall sockets are still dead. Any ideas?? Many thanks to all, Nik

I'm using Trend Micro PC-cillin and I keep getting alerts saying 'Unknown computers have connected to your network' There are a bunch of IP addresses listed like 10!!!!! I clicked do not trust and block but I still keep getting alerts? and theyre still connected.

I use cox cable, just one computer. just me. no one else. Cable connects to box>> that connects to my computer. I dont have a password/username for anything. Just turn on computer and Im online.

I thought in order for someone to use your internet connection you had to have wireless internet? How dangerous is it to have other computers connected to your network? What information can they get from you? How do I block them? Please help Im very new to this.

My 2wire 1701HG DSL router/modem fried, so I'm in the market for a new setup.

One feature I'd like is for the router itself to do the VPN to my company. When Windows sets up the VPN, it routes all traffic through it unless I modify the routing table. If the router itself did the VPN, I'd want to specify the range which it should route to the VPN, and have everything else not go through the VPN.

Note that I'm not asking about VPN passthrough; every router should do that.

I believe some Linksys routers support this feature, such as the WRV200 and more expensive but seemingly feature-equivalent WRV54G. It's hard to tell from the end-user-friendly specification sheets.

Are there any other routers / manufacturers that offer that feature?

Any recommendations?

(Thanks in advance!)

We are a school in an urban area.A recent survey showed that around 30% of our pupils households donot have telephone landline or other means to access to the internet.

We have a robust intranet, with aVLE (virtual learning environment)accessed through personal loggin for each pupil.

Is it possible to set up somekind of wifi bubble, providing free wifi coverage for the residential area surrounding the school. The bubble would allow those pupils with out internet access to acccess their VLE out of school time.

We would need to limit wifi access to just the VLE to dissuade the general public fom using the service for surfing!

Can this be done?I have heard several towns in USA and Sween have already embarked on this type of project.

What sort of issues and costs would be involved?
